Weird game so far today. It's the top of the sixth, and there have been a few newsworthy happenings:

I wasn't able to see it, but Matt Morris, Felipe Alou, and Dave Righetti were tossed in the first. Morris had two pitches get away from him to different batters and plunked them, and the ump apparently thought it was retaliation for yesterday's beaning of Omar Vizquel. (If you didn't see that, Jose Mesa threw a pitch that hit Omar in the shoulder. It is very plausible that the beanball was intentional, because Omar and Jose apparently have a history dating back to their days on the Indians. Mesa was NOT thrown out of the game by the umpire, though.)

Steve Finley led off the sixth against Jeff Francis and got plunked. Before he headed down to first, he and acting manager Ron Wotus gave it to the home plate ump because he did not throw Francis out. As either Kruk or Kuip said, "There are two sets of rules going right now."

A few minutes later, Finley was on second, and Ray Durham grounded a ball to short and beat out the throw. He was almost thrown out, though, because he grabbed his hammy about 10 feet from the bag. He was replaced by Vizquel. Hopefully it isn't anything serious.

And it gets even more interesting. But first, a sidenote:
Giants righty Brian Wilson, who was just called up from Fresno, made his Major League debut with a 1-2-3 seventh. He even struck out the first batter he faced! He is increasingly admired within the organization and throughout baseball.

And now the juicy stuff. Rockies lefty Ray King started the top of the eighth. He got Randy Winn to ground out but then allowed a triple to Finley. next batter? Omar Vizquel. A few pitches later, PLUNK!

Yep, Vizquel got hit. It didn't look too intentional, but the umpire tossed King anyway because the benches had been warned after Morris was thrown out. Clint Hurdle came out and had a "discussion" for a few minutes with the umpires, then was tossed himself. So hopefully this whole ordeal is over with for right now.

Oh, wait. You wanna know what pitcher replaced King? The guy that started it all: Jose Mesa.

gatw: the only reason why this thing is over with for right now is because the series is over. jose mesa has vowed "to kill" omar vizquel should vizquel ever charge the mound. mesa has sworn to purposely hit vizquel at each and every meeting of the two of them... and he has.

where is mlb personnel?

a pitcher says that he plans on intentionally hitting a batter, then he proceeds to do so.

. . . . . . . . .

matt cain was unable to hit the water from a rowboat and was demoted. brian wilson certainly impressed, didn't he?

. . . . . . . . .

tough tough loss today for the big men.

You notice when Vizquel gets hit by Mesa he just puts his head down and heads to 1B. Guys ought to be more careful about what they have written about other people.

Yeah, Wilson was pretty impressive. The two hits he gave up in the eighth were a seeing eye single to left and almost the same to right.

Apparently Cain wasn't demoted, though. The Giants' website has him on the 25-man roster and says on the home page that he will be making his first career appearance against the Mets this week.
