are the mariners still going to have an 'retro' day and put on pilots
uniforms..was wondering why they went with the pilots, rather than
the minor leagues, before MLB came to seattle

I've read items about a turn back the clock day in Seattle before. It seems that the Marriners don't want to recognize the Pilots as part of their legacy.A petition was sent to the Marriners in 2001 or 2002(see Pilots website) but the polite response was that "Maybe in the future but 2002 wasn't the right time".
The Brewers actually did have a turn back the clock night and wore the Pilots Uniforms,on June 10,2000.There's a picture of pitcher Jimmy Haynes wearing one in the letter section of the Pilots website. It's too bad it didn't happen when there were more of the actual Pilots still around to attend and take a bow.

I just noticed a post on the Pilots Yesteryear site that says the M's ARE going to dress in Pilot uni's on July 9 against the Tigers. The first 20,000 fans get a Pilots Cap.
You had a part 2 to your original question about why Seattle put a MLB team there in 1969 instead of a Minor league team.Did I understand that correctly? There was a AAA team in seattle through 1968. The Seattle Angels were the last AAA team. Jim Bouton was a pitcher on that team. When the Pilots came,They shared Their AAA team with the Also new Expos. They were located in Vancouver and were called the Mounties.
