The article I read said they were at .500 when they were 6-6 in their first season. Who would have thought it would take 44 years to get to over .500! :laugh

If it's the same article I read (Houston Chronicle) a few weeks back also noted that there are several teams (I can't recall which ones but should be easy to look up all time records) of note that you wouldn't expect that are still below .500!

Who would have thought it would take 44 years to get to over .500! Who would think it would take the Phillies 66 more years to hit that mark? See below.
Team records shown were numbers entering 2006 per listings at Baseball-Reference. I based my calculations, except for Atlanta, on a team averaging 90 wins per season...
Atlanta Braves - .499 (9533-9556)
Could be 92-69 on last day of season and be .500 exactly.
Baltimore Orioles - .477 (7742-8487)
Need to go something like 90-72 next 41+ seasons to reach .500
Colorado Rockies - .465 (949-1094)
Need to average 90 wins per year for next 8+ seasons to reach .500
Florida Marlins - .472 (963-1076)
Need to average 90-72 record next 6+ seasons.
Kansas City Royals - .491 (2872-2983)
Need to average 90-72 record next 6+ seasons to get back to even.
LA/Anaheim/California Angels - .490 (3507-3653)
Club needs 90 wins per season for next 8+ years.
Milwaukee Brewers - .471 (2761-3100)
Need 90-72 record on average for nearly he next 19 seasons.
Minnesota Twins - .480 (7788-8448)
Will need to average 90 wins per season for next 36.67 years (would be Aug 2042)
New York Mets - .474 (3311-3677)
Can reach .500 early in 2026 season if they average 90 wins per year.
Oakland Athletics - .485 (7870-8343)
Need 90-72 record next 26+ seasons.
Philadelphia Phillies - .468 (8679-9879)
If they average 90 wins per year, the Phils can reach .500 in Aug 2072.
San Diego Padres - .459 (2693-3174)
Need to go 90-72 for almost 27 seasons to reach .500.
Seattle Mariners - .470 (2149-2424)
Need just over 15 seasons at 90-72 to hit break-even mark.
Tampa Bay - .401 (518-775)
Would need over 14 seasons with average of 90 wins.
Texas - .467 (3336-3807)
Would be about May 2032 at 90 wins per season.
Toronto - .494 (2258-2315)
Could hit .500 in May 2009 if they play .555 ball until then.
Washington - .484 (2836-3024)
Could be .500 just before the 2016 All-Star Game if they average 90 wins per season.

Pop Top - thanks for that post! It's amazing the Braves are that far back all time. Then the Marlins in there short time have 2 WS under there belts and are STILL a less than .500 club.

I'm surprised they aren't farther back, they stunk for the vast majority of the first half of the 1900s while in Boston!
I'm also surprised Boston isn't on that list, the Sox had a horrid 1920s and 30s and a bad slump for a few years in each decade:grouchy

Something I found interesting, is that the Balitmore orioles as a team have a .521 WP, which is .044 points higher than their franchise record, thanks to the horrid years in St. Louis.
Another thing. The Browns best record was 93-61, a WP of .604.
The Orioles have had over .604 WP 8 times as a team.
