Why is Bonds still playing LF? He can't even jog anymore. Why not make him a first baseman? :o

Would he do it? Is his remaining a LF an ego thing?

It's not an ego thing, it actually would be harder for him physically to play
1B. Much more movement at 1B, lots of quick starts and stops.. how's he supposed to field a bunt? Whereas in LF, he only has a handful of plays to make every game and he's been able to do OK so far. But learn a new position at age 42? Asking a lot of anybody if you ask me.

looks like father time is coming down hard on bonds..the same happened
to aaron, his last year with the brewers..missing the bulk of last season,
really seemed to take the wind outta bond's sail...

perhaps a 'transfer' to the AL, as DH, might help save his knees..

then again, he might get hot, after the all star game..

don't think he's totally finished, as of yet..

as khenry hinted, bonds would embarass himself at first base. he does not have the footwork nor the lateral movement to field first base.

the quick starts and stops, fielding bunts, running out for relays and cuts... that would be much more difficult than remaining in left.

as long as bonds does not fully extend his right leg he can get to most balls. it is when his knee is extended that he gets into trouble. this is why he runs in the outfield in a bit of a crouch, and takes such a long time to stop.

playing first for even one game would keep him outta the next 3 or 4 games, and would possibly jeopardize his career due to injury.
