There are so many theories on how to swing a bat and throw a ball on this website it may do more harm than good. A lot of arguing between who is right and wrong seems to be quite common as well. Find someone you trust locally, maybe a good high school coach or college coach to see if he gives lessons or will refer you to someone good. Good luck...

I can understand the frustration of those reading some of the threads lately on who is right and who is more right when it comes to hitting mechanics. The encouraging part is that the discussion has turned from linear vs. rotational to the details of rotational hitting and who teaches the most effective method.

Just this evening I have the parents of four of my girls tell me how much their daughters have improved from my hitting instruction and the clinic Steve Englishbey conducted a few weeks ago. This is in addition to the improvement I have seen in my own daughter's swing and other parents last year telling me they saw a marked improvement.

I started with the Mike Epstein and Jack Mankin tapes but those didn't seem to give me everything I was looking for although they were helpful. Steve Englishbey's dvd's put the whole swing together and it makes the most sense to me.

I do not profess to be a great hitting guru or even tell you that my team is a model for rotational hitting. I can tell you they have all improved using Steve's system. I have them once a week until our season begins in late May. If I had them everyday like high school or college coaches, I'm sure they would be even better.

Don't just dismiss the discussions on these boards no matter how confusing they may get at times. Look at the clips on the web sites in the previous threads and decide for yourself who is offering the best method to get your players to develop a swing like the elite hitters.

Its going to take some research on your own, time and effort but in the end it will be worth it.

There have always been and will continue to be many contradictory things said about hitting by gurus, great hitters and and just dads. As always, compare anything anyone tells you about hitting to slow motion video of the best in the world. Let that be your truth detector.

Is there a good list of MLB players we should try to emulate? I know there are a few MLB'ers that are exceptions to the rule that overcome using a high level swing with pure elite athleticism. Not sure who all but I've heard B. Williams and J. Bagwell are two.
Also, on who to listen to or use for instruction - my vote is with Englishbey, he is an incredible instructor and works really well with people (fun guy to be around) and makes learning enjoyable. There are others who may have good points but are difficult to understand or decipher.
