Papelbon :D
*Scoots the Beantowner aside*

Ahem, clearly the intelligent voices here have chosen the one who's been on the top of his game for about a decade now ... Mariano! :p

It should be "Whose no.2".

Rivera is the 2nd best ever and I'm guessing is still at the top of his game right now.

I'd say Turnbow is the 2nd best, but that's just my homer opinion.

There does need to be an "other" option, especially with a totally unproven Papelbon on the poll and other closers who've actually been closing for over a month not listed.

This just in from NITWITNESS NEWS: :crazy

*Asks Albert Pujols who's the best closer?*

ALBERT PUJOLS: Brad Lidge, yeah, love that guy, and man, can he pitch! :D :p

*Checks the DL charts, notices that Gagne is on it*

*Awaits reply from Astro* ;)

Hey, you mean Frankie Rodriguez gets the nod over Jon Papelbon?

Agreed.

A healthy Gagne was the greatest closer of all-time. Sure he is on the DL right now, but if nothing else, his save percentage is BY FAR the greatest of all time.

And Lidge is the most dominating closer today. Whether or not he is the best is arguable, but he is so dominant that he should at least be on the list.

Mo is the best now and the best of all-time. No doubt.

*Looks to see when the last time the Yankees were in the World Series*
*Looks at record books and sees who has the most consecutive saves record*
*Walks out*

Bob Wickman. It's not even close.

With the premise that a closer's job is to close out games, the most important stat for a closer is save percentage, therefore the clear choice is hoffman.
Ive heard all the ERA+ and postseason arguments and whatnot, but Hoffman has been the most consistent in closing out games late through the longest period of time. Case Closed.

I agree, though he probably isn't the best active closer anymore.

Mo Rivera, he's done it for a while now and he'll be regarded as the best ever when he hangs the spikes up.

I think Rivera is the best closer around but do agree the poll should at least have Turnbow, Lidge, Francisco Rodríguez and Nathan on it..

Much as I hate to admit it, it's Rivera.

However, if you're going to put Papelbon on, you could AT LEAST put Chris Ray on, if not Lidge and Gagne.

How has Papelbon got more votes than Hoffman? Homers annoy me! :grouchy

The Great "Mariano"

Derrick Turnbow right now. Mariano and Hoffman are past their prime. I voted Mariano since he is the best out of this group.

You should've included the closers for all 30 teams in this poll. Otherwise, this is just a poll of "Who is the best closer out of the closers Monzonater thinks are good?"

You don't like homeruns?

Seriously, how anyone (even a Sox fan like myself) could say that Papelbon is the best closer right now is beyond me.

Gee that's a hard question. The only one who can even be compared to Rivera in career numbers is Trevor Hoffman

And Eric Gagne, but for some reason he's not on here. Probably anti-Canadian bias... :D :D
