In a bit of a surprise move, the Tigers decided to keep Jordan Tata on the big club, instead sending down Chris Spurling to make room for Todd Jones. Does Tiger management read this forum? I've said before that we should keep Tata around a bit longer, as he's looked MLB-ready thus far. Spurling is struggling, so his send-down makes sense right now. He's still a quality talent, but Chris was having control issues and hopefully he'll work them out (and re-establish his hunger) in Toledo. I was wishing Robertson would get sent down (if possible), but it's probably a little early for Leyland to give up on him yet. I know people are saying his mechanics aren't really starter-quality, but Zumaya deserves a shot at starting a few games, especially if Nate continues to get hammered.

I really like Zumaya out of the pen though. Particularly on a night like tonight, following Mike Maroth. From a guy throwing in the mid eighties to near 100 thats not even fair. It almost makes me want Steve Sparks back, but not quite.

Robertson deserves and is going to get his chance to work it out. Leyland being an old school guy isn't going to touch the rotation for at least 40 games, barring injury. Robertson has better stuff then our other lefties, he just seems to get too easily rattled. Lets hope he works it out.

Todd was rusty last night, to put it nicely. He's a decent pitcher, but I think we've got two guys currently in the 'pen who could do a better job with better stuff. Todd's signing may have been an expensive mistake, especially if he can't stay healthy or can't reproduce something close to what he did last year in the NL. He did manage to get out of his bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth, which shows great poise, but did allow a run to make the game way too close for comfort. I'd prefer Jones to handle the 7th inning duties, followed by Zumaya and Rodney. But since he's the vet, I'm sure the closer role is his to lose.
