JJA, a highly accomplished scientist/engineer, is in the process of dismantling a central theory of the tom guerry swing philosophy. Take a look (http://s6.invisionfree.com/Hitting/index.php?showtopic=305&view=findpost&p=4344227).

tom, what are you thinking ?

I'm thinking the last time someone tried to put a nail in the tht coffin, they ended up creating the best evidence for its existence.Seems to be a Nyman pattern. Find good stuff, not know how to apply it.
Exactly what happens with "BHT" scientifically is really not going to make any difference, you are still going to want to maintain a CHP or hook the handpath for inside approaching contact.
What would be a mistake would be to beieve that THT doesn't exist so that you think you can create a high level MLB swing without arm action/handtorque. Not gonna happen.
Same goes for xfactor,xfactor stretch.
Stay tuned.

Stay tuned.
Just all in a flutter--- on the edge of my seat. :D

Yeah, that Swing Builder guy needs to get his facts straight. He claims that he got one of his 16 year old poster boys to hit a 500ft shot -- using Charlie Lau's mechanics.........:laugh

More nailing going on.
See the nail go deeper. (http://s6.invisionfree.com/Hitting/index.php?showtopic=305&view=findpost&p=4351308)

This is turning out to be a pretty bad week for the swing philosopher.
Not good for sp (http://baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=42387)
Getting worse for sp (http://s6.invisionfree.com/Hitting/index.php?showtopic=305&view=findpost&p=4353324)

Ouch, tom took a hard one on the chin today.

Fascinating stuff by JJA. Chewing through that thread should raise your SAT score a few points.

Apparently, they hire pretty bright guys to work at JPL. Man knows his stuff. . .
Best,
Scott
Scott,
I'm an old Hughes Aircraft guy, now Raytheon. Those JPL guys blow up planetary probes because they get unit conversions wrong on spacecraft :) We have a friendly rivalry with those guys. They're good, but there is only one Hughes.
Glad somebody got something out of all that writing. It was just nice to finally write that stuff without it all getting banned on batspeed.com. God bless America.

I got a kick out of Mankin sending emails to someone else to post for him.
I'm still laughing at the gutless sob grand censor.

John:
Sorry I got that wrong.
But I seriously meant the "bright" part.
Good work! Regards,

Is tom practicing intellectual dishonesty again??
"The last apparent objection is that Adair assumed longitudinal forces on the bat only. This is a complete falsehood." (http://s6.invisionfree.com/Hitting/index.php?showtopic=305&view=findpost&p=4379239)

Considering that you are talking to Tom when you said:
"The last part about doing the experiment on the field is especially right on. The field is the lab for a hitter. Models are fine for the nerds, but the models don't have muscles and tendons etc. like a player has."
I find this pretty clever on several levels.

from JJA on Shawn's site: It's really very simple and is the crux of this entire argument. The fact that all of the golf literature is founded on such a model, is undeniable from a physics point of view as Nyman's simple simulation showed, apparently just isn't good enough. No amount of hard data will manage to convince either of you I guess.

Scott

All golf is NOT founded on this model, for example, Kelly's TGM/the golf machine.
