What exactly is a "View'?
How long do you have to view a thread to make it count as a "view"?
And, why If I view my own thread, the view does not count?

A "view", as you apparently realize, is when a single person has looked at your thread itself. Apparently, cookies are involved, since when I viewed this thread, it didn't count as an extra "view", despite looking at it several times then exiting. Therefore, don't be upset that your viewing your own thread doesn't increase the number of "views".
In fact, I've edited threads that had received no replies, but still only got one (1) "view".

Plus they are not updated every second. So a view might not register until the session (cookie) has been cleared and the final tally sent to the server which then can hold it for a few seconds or as much as 10 minutes.
