I take about 150 swings a day and lately my back has been killing me. I need to find a way to strengthen my lower back up this way I can take those extra swings

Start strength training and do deadlifts and reverse hyperextenstions.

Go see a professional and do not solicit advice from people who do not know you. A sore lower back is not something to take lightly.

Yeah if the problem persists, see a doc. You asked how to strengthen your lower back though, and strength training is the way.

If you're having muscle soreness already, I wouldn't recommend doing heavy duty strength training with weights right away.
You'd be surprised how much strength you can build up doing some bridges (pick up legs alternately during them) and bicycle kicks...also, ab strength is key to avoiding back problems, so don't forget the crunches.

Ive been having the same problem latly, but Im trying to get it back to 100% before I strength train.to get it back to 100% ive been using a combonation of massage, biofreeze(good product) and a heating pad.It seems to be working so far.

Common misconception. Doing anything besides strength training where you overload the muscles will not build strength. It will build endurance for that particular exercise but not functional strength.
I dont know how old the thread starter is. If he is 13 or under, he should probably wait a couple of years before strength training. However above those ages, strength (Weight) training is absolutely imperative for today's athletes.

Well, when I was undergoing my first set of physical therapy for sciatica (car accident), exercises such as the ones I mentioned above were enough to get me to the point where I could grab the sides of an examination table while laying on my stomach, slowly raise my legs to near vertical, and hold them basically as long as I felt like it...and I don't exactly have pipestem legs. Maybe not a truly impressive physical feat, but I was happy with it, and being able to do it showed me that I had built strength without using weights or weight machines.
Are you saying that you can't build strength without using weights, or that the "weightless" exercises that I mentioned are just ones that will not build strength? I don't know, I feel a lot of muscle fatigue if I do bridges and crunches properly...
I have nothing against strength training with weights and do it regularly, I was just saying that deadlifts may not be the best thing to start doing if the guy is suffering from back pain already.

I have recently tried bicycle kicks, and I feel like it really works because after I do about 50 reps, I feel soreness (muscle fatigue), in my lower back. I also feel it in my hips, ass, abs, and generally all in that area. Im no expert on excersizing, but It was written that any type of strength training without weights, will only build muscle endurance for that specific excersize. Im not sure how true that is, but it sounds pretty true to me. I wouldnt mind If all the body building studs on the site might want to debate over this. Im curious to see how much knowledge about strength training I can learn. just keep in mind that Im 14 years old, about 140 IBS. Im not sure how much body fat, but I practically have none. I look like a toothpick with some muscle on me, and no matter how hard I try to gain weight, I cant. So bottom line body builders: -What will help cure my lower back problems so I can take my 150 swings a day without pain, and so I can perform in the game 100%.
-Is it true that strength training without weights will only build muscle endurance for just that excersize, and not active muscle endurance for my hitting(performance).
And Finally-WHAT IS A GOOD WAY FOR ME TO FREAKING GAIN SOME DAMN WEIGHT?
I appreciate all that you can give me. Let the debate begin......

The best way to gain weight is to grow up. Eventually, your metabolism will slow down and you'll wish you could keep the damn weight off. Seriously, at your age you just want to be eating right, maybe lifting some weights, and trying to stay healthy. The weight will come when your body's ready for it. Fortunately, baseball is a sport that doesn't require you to be huge. Worry about how much weight you can move, not how much you weigh.
You're having lower back problems at 14. That's something you need to take seriously. See a doctor.

Vincent, I believe that good trunk strength exercises that do not involve weight beyond that of your body will help you with baseball. Hitting a ball hard requires strong trunk rotation, and having a strong core can only help you with that and all around. You mentioned that bicycle kicks helped you, and I would also recommend bridges and crunches/situps.
I second the idea that you shouldn't worry about your weight right now...you're lucky to have some muscle mass without excess fat. Just try to get strong without worrying about being bulky. Many of the best hitters I have seen are lean, strong people who also have the benefit of not lugging a lot of weight around in the field.
You will fill out as you age, and, as others have mentioned, you will long for the days when you couldn't put on weight no matter what you did.

Vincent, This is NOT how you want to get physical conditioning advise. People go to school to get advanced degrees in this stuff. Those are the people you should be talking to. And they won't speak with you unless you see them personally. PLEASE don't make the mistake many young teenagers make and follow the advise of those you shouldn't.... You have no idea of the backgrounds of those posting here.
[Im curious to see how much knowledge about strength training I can learn. just keep in mind that Im 14 years old, about 140 IBS.
Again, don't learn it here.... 14 years old and 140 lbs makes you average- nothing more - nothing less. Some strength conditioning regiments can be dangerous to you depending on your physical maturation. If you're serious about baseball and conditioning go see a pro...

im around 5'10"-11", so im real lanky. A lot of people have made it a point that i look skinny. I would just like to gain a little bit of weight whether fat, or muscle (prefer muscle, and not to much fat). and I thought that this site is full of professionals. I check all the threas I can, and I learn A LOT. There is more knowledge on this sight than I have, and ive read books, talked to people, dads a bodybuilder, talk to chiropractor, doctor, went online, and came here. So I know how to do the excersizes and stuff, i mean im not a pro, but i know more than the average kid my age knows about weightlifting.
Im not sure I can talk to a guy who REALLY knows about weight training.
