View Full Version : Silence on Guerrero?

Ok, here's a strange point. Feel free to disagree with me completely (as if you need my approval for this :) ).

Is there some kind of media silence going on with Vlad Guerrero? Yesterday, for example, Vlad went 3-5 with two homeruns, 3 RBI and a stolen base, and I didn't hear a word about him. Granted, Pujols had a really big day, but I've noticed this in the past with Guerrero, too. It's almost as if ESPN and other sports media outlets simply assume he's great and leave it alone.

Anyone else notice what seems to be a lack of attention to Vlad? Am I alone in this thinking? What's the deal?

Look, The East Coast Biased is out there. Even though my boy Vlad is batting .444 with 3 HR's, it's hard to believe why no one ever talks about him. He is one of the top 5 greatest players currently playng right now in my opinion. He doesn't get enough media coverage though because he doesn't play for the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs and so on. No, you ain't the only one.

All that, plus Vlad isn't exactly a media hound himself. He liked playing in Montreal because he wouldn't have to be a "celebrity" there, so I imagine Vlad doesn't really go out of his way to get noticed in any way other than his playing.

Pretty hard to go in-depth on a guy who doesn't (or won't) speak English and doesn't talk to the media. And I'm sure he's fine with that.

Vlad is one of my favorite players, next to Dontrelle Willis, but anywho, thats a reason I love Vlad, he's not a guy who you'll hear talking all the time about this and that, about how his team is going to win the series, or anything like that, he just plays hard and hits hard. I also love how he doesnt wear batting gloves, overall he's just one of those players who just plays and doesnt have their mouth open every five minutes mouthing off about something.

Vlad isn't outgoing, Yes. But people should give him a little more credit like a little ol' short stop in Texas named Michael Young.

Chris Shelton, Jim Thome and Jon Papelbon are getting more attention, because they are doing things now they didn't do last season.
Vlad is Vlad, nothing new.

Vlad gets plenty of respect. The "east caost media" helped him win an MVP award.

I'm not sure I can agree on the "East Coast" thing. One can look at Pujols to disprove that quickly enough (by the way, hasn't Pujols been spectacular for some time now? He's not doing anything new this season, really, is he, wilkerson?).

However, I do agree that Vlad gets virtually no media coverage. Maybe he gets some respect when his name is mentioned, but I don't see the coverage.

Ironically, even when he won the MVP, I didn't think he got much attention.
