Man, what's up with Adrian? This reminds me of the Jeff Cirillo days. Slick fielder but no pop in the bat. Why do these guys do so well for other teams then stink when they get to Seattle? Beltre is young so hopefully he will right the ship.

When asked a couple of days ago, if there was a chance Beltre would be moved back in the order, Hargrove said, "No."

I don't think Hargrove is going to put up with this weak hitting by Beltre, even though the M's have a big investment in him.

Is Beltre a slick fielder? (I'm asking seriously.)

Ironic. I was going to post a Beltre-bashing thread, but someone else beat me to the punch. He has no extra base hits, and no RBI through 49 AB's. Pathetic. Don't most NL pitchers fair better through the first few weeks? Beltre has to be ashamed to put on that uniform, cash his pay checks and step on to the field. He's a disgrace to MLB and it's fans.

He is in fact an outstanding fielder. Just got dropped to 7th in the order and immediately went 2/3 with a walk, an RBI and 2 Rs scored.

He'll probably stay down there for a while.

Thanks, SABR Matt. Really had no idea, and I've never gotten around to looking it up.

well..for the moment, looks like he'll continue his swoon, since coming
over from the Dodgers...Then again, he might finally get adjusted to
both Seattle and the AL....I doubt it....trouble being, he'll be hard to move
in any sort of deal, due to the big contract..sure glad the Tigers didn't
sign him..as they were 'HOT' for him...but on the flip, maybe he would have
done better in Detroit..probably not...i guess he's the perfect example of
someone having a career year..and milking it..how long will he last in
Seattle ?

P.S. steroids don't help you hit .334 -- they would help you hit 48 homers -- but as far as i know they don't help your ability to put the bat on the ball...

Here's a great article by Steve Kelley.

And a quote:

"From Cirillo to Scott Spiezio to Adrian Beltre, the Mariners have spent more than $100 million and four seasons looking for the next David Bell".

Damn, I forgot about Spiezio! We have had the worse luck with free agent third basemen.
