Rhetorical question? Sorry if it is: he has nagging elbow problems that prevent fielding. The plan is for him to play 20-25 games at 1B this year, though.

Really? How soon? I really would love to move Hafner to the first base slot on my fantasy team. Right now I'm getting by with a Jay Gobbons/Prince Fielder platoon at first. :o

Woah! Haf can't do that soon enough then for you! :laugh It's something I read in the papers and online during the off-season. We'll have to see. I mean, the Indians said they'd play Victor Martinez at 15-20 games at 1B last season and THAT never happened.

I couldn't agree with you more. I think he's commanding more and more respect throughout the League as time goes by. The guy is just crushing the ball so far this year. I also see him being more and more disciplined at the plate.

CLEVELAND, Aug. 13 — As a boy, Travis Hafner was a Don Mattingly fan. Now, Hafner has matched Mattingly’s grand slam record.

Hafner hit his sixth grand slam in Cleveland’s 11-run first inning to tie Mattingly’s single-season record and the Indians routed the Kansas City Royals yesterday, 13-0.

“It’s pretty cool to tie a major league record,” Hafner said. “Mattingly was one of the best hitters in the game. I liked to watch him on TV when I was young.”

Hafner put the Indians ahead by 11-0 with his 35th home run of the season and tied Mattingly’s mark, set with the Yankees in 1987.

The Indians got the baseball back from a fan and gave it to Hafner, who has 45 games left to try to break the record. He had been tied for second with Baltimore’s Jim Gentile (1961) and the Chicago Cubs’ Ernie Banks (1955).

“I’ll have to see if there is a next one,” Hafner said. He is 8 for 13 with 6 homers and 29 runs batted in this season with the bases loaded. It was his eighth career grand slam.

Hafner just doesn't get the publicity his play deserves. ESPN keeps yapping about Ortiz and Hafner has been better.

Pronk has just reached 2000 career PAs. This makes him eligible for the team career leaderboard at baseball-reference.com

So, how does Pronk stack up among Tribe career leaders right now?

Pronk is 3rd in SLG, behind Manny and Albert Belle.

He is 4th in career OPS, behind Manny, Joe Jackson and Thome.

He is 5th in AB/HR, behind Thome, Belle and Manny, and tied with Manny for 4th in OPS+, behind Jackson, Speaker and Lajoie.

He has quite a ways to go to climb the career totals in HRs, etc.

I hope he sticks around for awhile.
