I saw on CNN that the A's are negotiating with the city of Fremont to build a new stadium overthere.
Would the team be called Fremont A's then?
I really don't know, because teams like the Detroit Lions and New York Giants/Jets aren't playing in the cities where their names refer to.

Yes there is a Fremont in the southern part of the Bay Area. See the map.

I think it is far enough away from the Giants to have it's own identity and being between Oakland and San Jose yet still accessible by either it can do well.

Fremont is about within an hour drive from San Francisco, so IMO there is not much difference regarding their own identity.
Will they be called the Bay Area A's? :laugh

Fremont is actually closer to San Jose than Oakland, but I don't think they'll be called anything other than the Fremont A's. I've read of stadium proposals in Pleasanton, east of Oakland, and the team would still carry the "Oakland" name.

Pleasanton? It is a nice city/town. Next time I'll go there I can watch a A's game. :clapping :clapping :D

If the A's move down I-880 to Fremont they won't even be leaving Alameda County. Pleasanton is also in Alameda County.
Hopefully there won't be a territorial rights issue as long as the A's don't relocate to Santa Clara County or anywhere South or West of there.

Any place that is willing to build them a stadium and keep them there for a while is a good move if they can't get their envisioned stadium in Oakland.
What I'd like to see is a stadium with decent highway/rail/bus access and reasonable close to downtown areas. But that's just me...

I'd be really disappointed if the A's left Oakland, they've been there my whole life. The stadium is a 5 minute drive away from me. I just hope they don't end like Anaheim, imagine,"the Oakland Athletics of Fremont" !!! god i hope not, lol.

Come on now, the Oakland Athletics of Fremont by way of Kansas City and Philadelphia has quite a ring to it. :)

That shouldn't be any problem. The bay area has a decent public transport system in BART (Bay Area Rapid Transport).

BART goes all the way to Livermore (east of Pleasanton) if I'm not mistaken. And it's not all that far from the city of Oakland itself.

Last stop east is Dublin/Pleasanton. Conversely the last stop south is Fremont. Either way, as long as there is adequate bus service to/from BART and as well as adequate highway acces then the stadium will work.

It would be a mistake for the A's to move out of Oakland even if it doesn't look true the A's are the heart and soul of East Bay.

Any info on how much of the cost might be borne by the A's ownership or is this one of those "built it and we will come" deals??

I don't unsertand Oakland sports fans. The A's and the Golden State Warriors had games going at the same time a few days ago. And the A's, a playoff caliber team, drew less people than the Warriors did. And the Warriors are a lousy, uninteresting team going nowhere!! :o

I sure hope it won't be as ugly as the Oakland Alemada Coliseum is. Or as ugly as Angel Stadium used to be, when it was a multifunctional stadium.

Well the Lions played in Pontiac (Detroit suburb) in the Silverdome for a while, but their new stadium is right in downtown Detroit. I should know I saw the Seahawks get cheated out of their rightful Super Bowl win there this past February! ;)
