Having KC six of the last nine games may be to our advantage.

Ouch, talk about limping into the playoffs. These Royals are a Royal pain-in-the.... It would really be a crying shame to lose the division because of a sweep at home against Kansas City to finish up the regular season. Especially with the Twins losing to the White Sox the past two games. All we need is one Twin loss or one Tiger win and we are Central division champs, and will host the A's in the ALDS. Heckuva season.

It'll be interesting to see how history remembers this batch of Tigers. Most people waited until they were at least 30 games over .500 before they admitted they were contenders. Then they went into that long slide, capped off by Polanco's injury. Then giving the division title away to the Twins, losing the last five home games of the season. Then the unlikely and heroic upset of the Mighty Yankees, when nobody (not even many Tigers fans) gave them much of a chance. Then blowing right by the A's to get the the WS in near-record time. Then the agonizing wait for the NLCS to finish up, while the media hype surrounding the Tigers escalated out of control. Then the rustiness of the first game of the series, and Rogers' targate incident, then the butt-whooping we took to lose the whole thing.

That's kind of how I remember it, as of now. Maybe someday they'll be looked upon as overacheivers, or underacheivers. No matter who looks at them, though, they'll always be the 2006 American League Champions. And that's a long way from 2003.
