I was reading about the Cardinals new stadium, in a section of the concourse, they have listed many of the significant events in the teams history. Engraved into a wall is an item about a great moment in the career of Stan Musial, mentioning that in May of 1954 he hit 5 HR's in a doubleheader against the SAN FRANCISCO Giants.

They spent 300-400 gazillion bucks on this place. Incredible.:confused:

I've never seen a claim that the Indians played the San Francisco Giants in the World Series in 1954. Maybe all the books are wrong.

Some people are just plain ignorant as far as history is concerned.

Maybe it's more revisionist history. Those who run the game would love fans to forget that teams moved to different cities.

This is a perfect example of why a franchise ends when the team leaves the city and a new franchise is created in the city to which the team moved.

The New York Giants ceased to exist after the 1957 season, regardless of how teams are listed, whether it be at research websites or books or newspapers.

The Minnesota Twins are not the Washington Senators.
Never were.

Or, with respect to the new Cardinals' ball park, it may simply be ignorance and/or carelessness. No matter what, it is disgraceful.

To err is human said the rooster as he got off the duck.................but this is sheer carelessness which, I have no doubt,will be corrected by Cardinal management in short order. New park however, sure looks good.

According to the Cardinals, when I was fortunate enough to be at the game(s) to see the Great Cal Ripken tie, and the next night break, Lou Gherig's consecutive game streak, I was watching the St. Louis Browns play a home game??

The five home run game by Musial irked Mr. Durocher. As I recall, Musial hit the home runs on May 5th, 1954 during a doubleheader at Sportsman's Park. "Stan The Man" hit the homers off Jim Hearn, Hoyt Wilhelm and Johnny Antonelli. I have read that Mr. Durocher was rather unhappy with Musial's performance. The next night he told Ruben Gomez to knock "Stan the Man " on his rear end every time up. Gomez complied. Musial was knocked down his first two trips to the plate by Gomez. During his third at bat, Gomez knocked him down again. "The Man" allegedly looked into the Giant dugout at Mr. Durocher. Durocher allegedly told Musial " I know you can hit vertically, I"m trying to find out whether you can hit horizontally."

On Fox Sports Midwest Cardinals postgame last night, the trivia question was, "Who said this about Stan Musial.... ""The best way I have found to pitch to Musial is to throw him my best pitch and then back-up Third Base..."

Didn't get to see the answer.
