Too bad we couldn't open every season against the Royals. The defense looked good, and Chris Shelton was amazing. He made a couple of good plays at first base, and just missed his third homer of the day by about 10 feet (to the right). Carlos Guillen also looked sharp, playing good defense and popping a homer to left-center. Kenny Rogers pitched good, allowing only one run over six innings. Todd Jones to the DL? No matter, as rookie Joel Zumaya came in and shut down the Royals while nearing 100 mph on every heater he threw. That change-up looked very good too, after his nerves settled down a bit. Two scoreless innings in his MLB debut...that's impressive. Rodney nailed down the save in Jones' absense.
A few negatives from this game was the inability of the heart of the order to get anything done. Maggs, Pudge, Dmitri....they all looked impatient at the plate, just like what Tram had to witness all last season. Those guys need to learn how to work a count, not just whiff at the first pitch they see every time. We're lucky it was the Royals and not the Yankees, we would have gotten whooped. Hopefully Leyland won't let them celebrate too much, it's just one game.

You're such a cranky person that I bet you're the last living member of your high school baseball team. Get a real life and leave us real Tigers fans alone.
CCN - Is there any way possible that we could ban this grump from the forum? He's obviously not interested in talking baseball, just trolling.

What's all this talk about banning? Banning is for the weak of mind. I for one, find Donald comical.

Sounds like a good day for the tied-for-first place Tigers.
The only reason for this post is that I like the phrase "first place Tigers" no matter how out of context or early in the season it is used. ;)

You've got me in a bind, Donald. I've been completely fair with you, but raco's right. Now that the season is upon us, your incendiary posts can't be taken as much more than bait. Which is pretty much against site rules.
Post about your Tiger Stadium memories, post about your memories of yesteryear's teams. But too many people are turned off by your attitude about the present-day team to just allow that to keep happening. Just don't post about the current team unless you have something new to say.

We know that, and your insight into stadiums past is very valuable. We'd just like to talk about the current Tigers without having our breakfast ruined every time.

We don't care if you're around. This thread is supposed to be about the Opening Day game, not about how much you despise the Tigers' ownership and wish for their downfall. All you ever do is ruin threads, exactly as you did here. Contribute something valueable to the conversation or go away. If I was still a mod, you'd be (in the words of the great Ernie Harwell) LOOOOONG GOOOOONE, so thank your lucky stars for that.

This wasn't worth starting a new thread for, but....
The first place Detroit Tigers tore up Joe Mays and all other comers and won again yesterday afternoon to sweep KC. Pudge went 5-for-5, with a home run and a double down each foul line. Bonderman had a really good outing, giving up one hit then setting down the next 15 batters. Things seem to be gelling, as it seemed everybody had a good game.
Well, let's see what happens when we take on Texas.

Funny that Skip Bayless was laughed at for suggesting that the Tigers could win the Wild Card a week ago...2-0 with big wins(even if against KC, still big) kind of makes him look partially sane for saying so.

No way Rac. Let 'em stay here - I'm interested to hear what he has to say in August/September when we're still hangin' around in the hunt ! ;)

I can tell you right now what he'd say about that (or anything else): tear down CoPa, make Illitch sell the team to Faygo, and move the Tigers back to Tiger Stadium.
or:
the Tigers stink, they'll lose 199 games this year, you're all fools for cheering them, etc. etc.
Anyways......
How 'bout that 4-0 start? The pitching has looked good, and the offense is living up to it's capabilities. Chris Shelton is absolutely locked in and feeling strong. If we get half this production for the rest of the season, the Tigers will be a team to reckon with. This is fun.

3-1, 14-3, 10-6, 5-2. Looks to me like they are finally all on the same page offensively and defensively. Now if they can keep this up against Chicago and Cleveland I think you are looking at a team that can and will go places in October:eek:

Selling the Tigers to Faygo....That was the funniest thing I have read since I have been on this site (3-4 days)...still my sides are hurting. If they do sell it to Faygo can ICP (Insane Clown Posse) replace Paws?
