Is anyone going to watch this show? Do you care what he has to say?
Seems like everyone on ESPN is a Bonds apologist, so it's not shocking that they're airing it, but why the show? To tell his side? What are the odds any truth will come from him, when he's allegedly lied for so long about steroids. What do you think his agenda is? To get fans to warm up to him and see a different side of him?

From the previews, it sure seemed like he wants to show the "real" Barry Bonds. Him at home with his kids, his point of view, so maybe we can understand him better. He says "there's no better place to get the truth from, then me" on the preview. At this point, nothing he says holds much weight with me.
Enlighten us Tony Tone. How did the show come about being signed by espn? Cause they're greedy ******** who sold out. Now they're sure doing a lot of "positive" Bonds stuff. Baseball tonight is doing the top 20 moments of Bonds' career, the baseball tonight crew is ALL over his jock, defending him, and Joe Morgan is still acting like Joe Morgan regarding Bonds.
Share the insight.

How did the show come about being signed by espn?
bonds was given permission by the giants late last fall to do a self-produced show. it was to show bonds training, mostly. him getting up early, stretching, weights, treadmill, stuff like that. by himself and his trainers.
also to be included was gonna be his nutrition program: what he eats and drinks, how much, at what intervals, etc.
viewers were also gonna see bonds at times not being able to answer the bell, after all, he's human. (or so goes the rumor, anyway.)
bonds was given unprecedented access to film of his at-bats, and bonds' swing through the years was gonna be analyzed by experts. all of this, mind you, outta bonds' own checkbook. then someone got the bright idea to use brighter lights, better camerapersons, more... you get the idea: sellout.
what could'a been an interesting take on bonds' regimen (an inside look that undoubtedly would'a interested many) turned into a corp thing that few wanna check out. can't say that i blame 'em for not wantin' to.

Best player on earth? that may be stretching it a bit. That title would be given to someone more like Babe Ruth Ty Cobb. Also Bonds is surrounded by steroid suspision so nobody really knows what he did with his pure natural talent. I can think of alot of more guys who are probably better than him and used there god given skills.

You mean you weren't captivated?
He started to talk about steroids and said that we was bound by the law to keep his mouth shut, and he made a "zipping" gesture up to his mouth. If I'm not mistaken, as the person who said those things, he can say anything he wants. The reason the stuff is "sealed" is to protect him from others getting the info. But if he wants to put it out there, he can. So that was lame.

Bonds is simply the greatest player of alltime. Anybody with common sense can see this. The only POSSIBLE arguement that anybody can use to say otherwise is the steroid arguement, which is really weak, since it doesn't benefit a baseball player much. Faster recovery, that's about it. Well, maybe using winstrol to keep lean could help someone run faster and play the field better, and possibly help a pitcher throw harder. That's about it.
You'll never see anyone who has used steroids say some of the stuff clowns say about bonds " tainting " records.
Oh well, to each is own.

This is how it goes. Bonds is a jerk. I want Bonds to be a jerk, and as of now I can justify calling him a jerk. Seeing how I want to be able to say that he's a jerk, I'm not going to jeopardize that standing by exposing myself to something that has potential to change my views.
I'm not saying that Bonds is a good guy or role model or anything. It's just interesting how people seem to go out of their way to avoid giving any of their mental attention to arguments or portrayals that might work in the favor of Bonds. For many, there is obviously some psychological purpose to uphold his villainous image. That purpose though is not obvious though.

If I remember right, he made mention of "the law, and by baseball."
Either way WC, the testimony is sealed for his protection against others. If he wanted to come clean, he could.
I thought the show portrayed a different side of him than perhaps some have seen. His is a normal guy with feelings and demons, but at the same time, he has made his bed up to this point, and now he must lay in it, like it or not. When it showed the hate letters he gets, with people callling him the N bomb, that's just brutal in this day and age for people to stoop to that level. Rip on the guy for how he goes about his business, or for steroids, but that was pathetic. Granted, he's in a position to bring out hightened emotions in people, but still, there's no excuse for that.

it is not always this easy, man.
while true that federal grand jury rules allow for witnesses to speak freely as to rebut rumors, innuendo, planted stories, the like, bonds does not know the testimony of the other fgj witnesses. for him to talk without knowing what was stated outside of his knowledge might jeopardize his testimony.

WC, nobody is interested in anybody else. It's his tv show, with the camera in his face, and we only want to know about his testimony, or him coming clean. If he truly wanted to, he could, he's not bound by any law. The whole "zipping the mouth" thing was hollow.

^^ witnesses are not bound by federal law, but to start flappin' away would surely not be in bonds' best interests. again, bonds only knows what he said, he does not know what others might have said about him or circumstances related to him.
i would certainly advise him not to comment publicly. no doubt about it.

^^ WC, if you stole a pack of gum, and you told your parents about it later, you'd get punished. If I came over to see if you wanted to go ride bikes, and you couldn't because you were grounded, why couldn't you tell me about what you did? It's all your actions, nobody else's. I'm not asking you to comment on little Billy who also stole a candy bar, or shy sarah who had her mouth on the slurpee dispenser. Just you. What's so harmful about that. Again, if he REALLY wanted to come clean, he could and would. Is it still your contention that he never did anything, or is it all about the rules of baseball and whether or not he tested positive still? Not sure if your stance has changed after the book reading; only reason I ask.

bonds was one of several dozen professional athletes who testified over several months. any one of them, or more than one could have given sworn statements involving bonds.
without knowing what others said, bike ride or no, it is best for bonds to remain mum on what he stated to the grand jury.

Hard to know where exactly you stand WC. You answer a lot of questions, and respond to a lot of Bonds related issues in defense of him. I know you're about getting the truth out there, and I respect that, but there been many times, where your explaining "the facts" have a hint of defensiveness. We're all human, and we make logical judgements all the time, putting 2 and 2 together, or looking at a mountain of circumstantial evidence to come to a conclusion. That doens't necessarily make anyone "out to get" him. For some reason with him you're able to stay safely in that zone where it's "just the facts."
What old ways do you speak of?
I do, you're right.

Which has nothing to do with whether he actually used or not. It was thrown out already anyway wasn't it? If not, it should be rather quickly. There's no grounds. Any harm he feels he brought on himself by allegedly doing steroids in the first place. The book is a result of his actions.

That would be a hard case to prove. The same things weren't available to them, and at the same time, the common thought used to be that is was bad to workout too much if you were a baseball players. Baseball wasn't a game designed for "bulked up" guys. It was designed for the agile, quick, speedy players with lean strength. Sometime in the late 80's early 90's that notion fell by the wayside as the style of game changed to more of a station to station, HR or nothing approach.

I think the show is okay AND what is interesting about it is it gives you a inside look at what goes on in and around a regular game. Plus you get other major leaguers talking about Barry or talking baseball. This is stuff you don't get to normally see on ESPN or anything. And the show covers what happened a couple days prior to the show being aired, which is interesting.

I am 15 years old and new to this website and I have been enjoying so far but when I saw this thread I had to speak my mind. I am a huge Bonds fan. I think it is unfair to to keep critizing barry saying "the show was a cry-fest" and other things like that. YOU step into his situation. Getting racist mail everyday and completely ridiculous fans saying completely ridiculous comments. The man is human, he has feelings, it will have to get to you at some point. People say he is a jerk. Have you ever sat down and had a conversation with and he treated you like crap? You are getting the media's portrayal of him. Of course they are going to call him that, when he doesn't talk to you. He started to shun the media after his divorce with his former wife Sun. He doesn't want his family to involved in papers. Talk about him not his family. I am very sure you don't want poeple talking about your families. When the media shows you interviews they don't show the clips where he is happy and is joking with them, the show you a "arrogant and defiant" Barry Bonds, mad after they ask him a stupid questions like they always do. They wonder why he gets mad when they ask him a steriod question, well if you listen to him he can't answer questions about steriods because of legal issues, yet they keep asking over and over and over. That is also why he gives the transcript of interviews on his website, so the you can see what was said instead of the media version of things. In conclusion, Bonds on Bonds is supposed to show you what he goes through everyday, to get a different perspective other the media constant ripping him because he doesn't talk to them. You don't have to watch but once listen to what he is saying because it will all make sense.

Hank Aaron when attempting to pass ruth, had to go through the same racial, actually more, racial comments toward him. He didnt have his own show where he whined and cried about it did he, no he just went out and played ball. Thats what Bonds needs to do, just go out play, and shut up.

From an anti-bonds perspective that is whining. He is just showing people his life, he doesn't want poeple feeling sorry for him. Really how can the guy win with anit-bonds fans. Everything he does people think is fake. If he ignores people he will get ripped and if he acts nice towards people they will say he is doing it out of the situation. I have the a ton of respect Hank Aaron but do you think when he got hate letters he sat there and said nothing. I am sure that had hank said something to someone at some point and time. Like i said people are human, they have feelings and emotions. Bonds does and Aaron does.
