The Seattle Mariners have decided to have the team dress up as the Seattle Pilots after 26 years of fans asking them to do so at Safeco Field. :clapping The Pilots will play the Tigers on Sunday, July 9, 2006 and the first 20,000 fans will get a Pilot hat.

I wonder if they got permission from the Milwaukee Brewers to wear the Pilots jerseys.
The Brewers I believe still own the Pilots name. They had a game against the White Sox at Milwaukee County Stadium in 1999 where the Brewers wore the Seattle Pilots jerseys.

I've been waiting 30 years for the Mariners to finally pay some tribute to the Pilots and they finally do it. The only problem for me is after spending my entire lifetime in the Northwest I'm moving to North Carolina on the 11th of June. I won't get to see it, ****.

I went to a Pilots game when I was eight. I won tickets at Putt-Putt Golf. It's interesting why the M's never remembered the Pilots until now ? I guess it is a bad memory to Seattle and to Major League Baseball.

Say...
That would be exciting to win tickets to the Pilots game. Which game(s) did you attend, and who were the Pilots playing? Do you have any snapshots of the players or sick's seattle stadium? What do you remember about that wonder season?

Great photo of Tommy Harper. If you go to the Pics thread here,There's a link from Baseball Steve, that has some rare Pilots pictures. I get an e-mail alert when he posts new pictures on his ebay site and there are some of Tommy Davis,Don Mincher and Gary Bell in spring training. He has a few others like Mike Marshall and Tommy Harper. The Harper picture is in the California Angels section because he's in a rundown with Rick Reichardt. You'll never see his pictures anywhere else. He buys the negatives and owns the rights to his pictures. Check it out! :atthepc

I remember I went with my Dad. We always went to a game, whether it was Babe Ruth, Little League, American Legion, Semi Pro League or Fast Pitch Softball. I remember one night we watched this guy, can't remember the name, but It was just him pitching, a catcher, a first baseman and a fielder. This guy tossed fastpitch, and if memory serves me, he also pitched blind folded.
As for Pilot Memories of that game, the only thing I can recall, is I ate everything the concession stand offered. We sat behind the plate.

Was the softball team,Eddie Feigner and his King's Court? After he retired, former Astro's and Expos catcher,John Bateman caught for Feigner's famous 4 man team.

Well I just got my internet working again. Having grown up and practically lived my entire life in the Seattle area living in North Carolina is certainly a lot different. I'm trying to get use to the humidity. I can't believe all the thunderstorms here. All in all I wish I was back in the beautiful northwest going to the M's games and listening to Dave Niehaus and Rick Rizz do the broadcasts. But I can't.

I have lived in the Eastern U.S. and western WA both. The weather patterns are very different of course. I have to say I do like a good thunderstorm from time to time (as long as I'm not on the golf course, lol).
Did you know you can watch the games on MLB.com? It costs $15 a month, but you can watch any game at any time for that fee.

Thanks for that info. Seattle 1! Actually I've got the major league baseball network (or whatever they call it) on my cable system here. Unfortunately the broadcast teams are from the home city so I don't always get to here the M's broadcast team. I'm not complaining though I've been able to see all the Mariner games of the last week and a half including todays Pilots Day game (which I vowed to die before I missed it). I don't get to see the Mariners warmup broadcast before the game. Did they have any of the Pilots on the pre-game show?

Seven of nine Mariners had their socks showing. The two holdouts were Sexton and Beltre. The Uniforms looked good. The hats they handed out, are not exactly like the ones the ball player were wearing, or like the pilots used to wear, but they are pretty cool, anyway. The sponser emblems were small and on the sides.
Have you ever noticed that when they throw it around the horn, after an out, Beltre always recieves his throw by the third base bag and he always tags the bag with his foot or has his foot touching it ? Superstitious ?

Bouton is a great speaker. About ten years ago I was driving home from the Olympic peninsula back to Seattle in the wee morning hours listening to the local all-sports station when they played an interview that Bouton had done telling about his life in baseball from childhood to his comeback with the Braves in the 70's in which he basically just gave a lifelong narration. It went on for at least two hours and he had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. He's articulate and funny and definitely one of the best storytellers that I've had the pleasure to listen to.
Yeah it is hard to leave home and say goodbye to all the friendships you've built over a lifetime. I have friendships that have lasted from grade school to this day but I'll still be able to keep them and move forward. But I do miss the mountains and the water too (I need to find some water if only to look at).

I haven't met many people who don't like the city. I think you'd like it there if only just for a vacation.
I never heard of any bar with any Pilot memorabilia in it but that doesn't mean that there isn't one. If there is I want to go in it when I next visit. The Pilots have never been a big topic for Seattleites so word may not have gotten around.

WOW, first off I really liked the old Tigers uniforms, the Seattle uniforms though? I think a few of the players bauked at that one, seeing the handful of folks not wearing the old stirups for the Pilots.
Now, to the reason I responded to you......RICK RIZZ? It has been awhile since I heard that name. I did know that's where he landed, but he's still going there eh? I know he had and maybe has venom toward the way he was treated in Detroit. He could of been Mel Allen incarnate, and Detroit would not of liked it, as he (not him management) forced out Ernie Harwell (HOF). His campy, "goodbye baseball" call still sends chills up my spine thinking about it. Although, we (Tiger fans) still aren't entirely happy with "Ernies" replacement. Although, the somber folks they have now are getting a slowly warming response.
WOW again.

Impossible to replace a legend like Ernie Harwell. In the early days of Rick Rizzs tenure in Seattle I wasn't a very big fan of his. Though in his second tenure with the Mariners I have become a very big fan of his. He is always positive and always has nice things to say about everybody and he's become a much better announcer. His trademark "Goodbye baseball," homerun call is boring though and his toupee gets fuller and fuller with each coming season.

Didn't the Tigers hire Bo Shembechler, former Football coach @ the University of Michigan, and he was the guy who removed Ernie Harwell ? What a bone-head thing to do. They hire a Football guy to run a Baseball Club. Ernie called Tiger games for like 40 years, I believe. If memory serves me correctly, on Bobby Thompson's shot heard round the world, Ernie was doing the call on Radio.
Rick Rizz is corn dipp as it gets. Total bubble gum announcer. Not only is his homerun call stupid, but he constantly repeats what the color guy says. Rizz says the following about every guy who has ever played: "This guy is a hard worker, great guy, comes to the ballpark early."

Yup, it was Bo that was in charge (president) when they got rid of Ernie. He made the Baseball decision to draft athletes, which is how Tony Clark came to be, I guess not a horrid choice. I am not sure about the Thompson shot though?

It would've been nice to see the Pilot players in complete uniform instead of just shirt and hat. I would've liked to see participation by all of the remaining Pilot players...and maybe a short Old Timers inning or two as part of the pre-game festivities. Wouldn't that have been something!
