Unfortunately I'm afraid so. Sosa due to a sudden decline in production and Palmeiro being blackballed by the baseball community. Nobody can tell me with the stats that Palmeiro put up last season that no team needs a DH with that kind of production even at the age of 41. He is still worth a flyer and if not for the steroids he would still be playing.

Sadly my gut says yes Bags is done.

Juan Gonzalez? I think his numbers are HOF worthy. He may still play this year. Not real sure what's going on with Igor

March 19, 2006 - Juan Gonzalez agrees to a minor-league contract with the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox aquire Wily Mo Pena from Cincinnati. Gonzalez then tells the Red Sox that he won't play for them and has signed with Oakland.

March 23, 2006 - The Red Sox say the Gonzo-A's contract is "a figment of his imagination" and the A's say there is no contract with, nor interest in Gonzalez.

March 24, 2006 - Gonzo hasn't reported to either the Sox or the A's spring training, but apparently is in ST with the Colorado Rockies.

I really don't know what to make of all that, but he should be using up his frequent flier miles pretty quickly (and getting quick geography refresher) if he's meeting with them in person.

Gone might mean more than his hits in this case.

Is Kevin Brown officially retired? I don't think he's under contract anywhere.

Al Leiter is another noteworthy retirement. Of course he's not really a Hall candidate, but he'll at least appear on the 2011 ballot.

Kevin Brown has indeed retired.

The retirement astonishingly coincided with the expiration of the looney $105 million contract he was given in prior to the 1999 season.

The best news any team can get is that Juan Gone is with another team.
Juan Gone turning down the Tigers' outrageous offer was the second best non-signing for a Detroit team the past 20 years. (second to the Hawks matching the Pistons' offer to Jon Koncak before they won back to back titles.) Saddling the team with such a horrible contract would have prevented the team from taking the steps they've taken toward mediocrity the last couple years.

That's fine, but Walker is certainly miles closer than Castilla, or Bichette (if you want to pick another Coors product.)

Larry Walker is one of the great five tool corner outfielders ever. Fantastic defense and arm, good speed, excellent contact and power hitting even without Coors Field. He's a HoF'er in my book, borderline... but he definitely won't make it.
