We're the dummies in this story. The way it has been projected, the rest of the nation will despise and torment Barry Bonds this season while the Bay Area demonstrates a clueless brand of love. It's all about denial at the Giants' ballpark, they say, while abuse will rain upon Bonds at every other stop.
Don't count on it working out that way. The Giants will be the biggest road draw in baseball -- and Bonds' home runs will be greeted by thunderous noise. Not all of it will be cheering, but it will carry the ring of adulation. People just won't be able to help themselves.

good call by jenkins about alou being the perfect man for the helmsman job under the current circumstances.
"When it comes to the daily circus surrounding Bonds, the Giants have the perfect manager in Felipe Alou. A young red-hot (Eric Wedge) or someone obsessed with detail (Buck Showalter) would be appalled at the notion of Bonds essentially running the team. They wouldn't be able to handle the blows to protocol, or their pride. Alou just shrugs it all off. Doesn't sweat the small stuff. Just let him know if Bonds is available that day, or not..."

...The Giants will be the biggest road draw in baseball...
That's pretty bold, you sure that's not just loyality speaking?
That's based on past Giants road attendance when Bonds was playing. He's a huge draw.
Think the Giants are 2nd to the Yankees in road attendance since 2001.

a few weeks ago, in reponse to someone's notion that nobody will watch the giants this season, especially on the road, i laid down that the giants (read: bonds) have been either the top or second-best road draw in the past 5 seasons.
also, the giants expect to surpass 3M in attendance this season.
