Good players does not equal good team

Sorry if I dismotivate Jays fans (I am one too) but having good players does not necessarily mean you'll have a good team or be a contender. LEt me give you an example, it's actually off-topic, in 2003-2004 the New York Rangers hockey team had many star players, Pavel Bure, Eric Lindros, Petr Nedved, just to name a few. They even pull off a move to acquire star forward Jaromir Jagr and pay 3/4 of his huge salary. You know what, this team finished before last in its division and missed the playoffs for the 7th straight year!

No apologies needed cause what you say is true. We'll find out how good this team is when the season starts. We've discussed player's egos on this board, but we also have to keep in mind team chemistry. We really have no idea if the 06 Jays are going to get along on and off the field. Plus the new players will have to get accustomed to playing in Canada, for a new manager and in the Dome.

You used the NY Rangers as an example of a star powered, over paid, under achieving team - but there have been countless examples in the MLB that you could have used as well. However I wouldn't consider the 06 Jays to be a "super team" on the level comparable to the 03-04 NY Rangers...

chemistry is big but the players the Jays brought in have no egos that i know of so I think we will be fine. this was a very loose clubhouse last season and even though we lost the Dogg and players should get along good. we may struggle at first but i think once players get to know each other it will be good.

no becuz baseball u can cotnrol ur own stats unlike hockey that requires team work in baseball u can just swing and hit the ball.

A team with alot of star players with big egos could struggle. But in the mlb i think this is less often then basketball,hockey, and football. Baseball is really a thing of indivual talent but there can be problems while fielding and in the clubhouse. The blue jays i dont think will have a problem because theres no real big ego star players. I actually think that some of the players are overhyped (like A.J. Burnett). The Blue Jays have a good calber team and should be much beter then last years jays but being overtalented will not be a problem here.

i agree with that and also the fact that Burnett is overhyped, no one has ever really mentioned that here yet. He ain't going to win 20, i think a realistic goal would be 12-15. I hope he doesn't have the same attitude problem as he did last year but he said in an interview that 'Arnsberg knows me better then me' so hopefully Brad will keep him in check.

Yeah but we really dont have any players that will cause problems except for maybe Hillenbrand because he does'nt want to be a DH.

I still beleive that usually team with good players have a better chance at winning than a team with bad players. And calling Lindros, Bure, and Nedved star players when they were on the Rangers is laughable. Lindros was a star in junior and before all the injuries got him in Philly, Bure was past his prime in New York, plus playing with bad knees, and Nedved has always been overrated. Teh Jays will not have problems to the exent of the Rangers by any means.

It is a possibility, but we've also seen teams that put together alot of star talent be successful like the Yankees and Red Sox, so it could also go in the reverse fashion.
