Which of these players in the #1 all-time Angel: PLease consider their service to the Angels, not necessarliy to other franchises in baseball. If you feel one of these is not the number one Angel, please nominate your own.

What an odd group: four HoFers and yet you don't think of any of them as Mr. Angel.
I voted for Tim Salmon simply because he has played his whole career with the Angels.

hat's a good choice my many Angel fans. Wilhelm played part of one season, so I expect no votes for him, but he is a HOFer. Ryan, on the other hand, ought to have an Angel cap in Cooperstown. His 383 and four of his no-hitters were with the Angels, however his longevity somewhat diminished his Angel career.
Fregosi ought to get some "Mr Angel" votes, too. He was an All-Star shortstop for much of the 1960s for the AL. His number is retired by the club as well.

When I think of the Los Angeles/California/Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim, the first players I think of are the pitching duo of Ryan and Tanana.

He's probably the one I picture foremost in my mind with the uniform on.

During the first 11 years of the franchise it floundered with only three winning seasons (1962, 1967, 1970). The fans needed to feel a sense of pride and tradition for their team, and that was provided by Jim Fregosi. He was the only player of consistent All-Star quality the Angels had. Fregosi gave us a glimpse of what the Halos could become with a little help from a trade or the farm system. He was the leader. Given the time and circumstances, no player ever meant more to the Angels.
Fregosi is not the most talented player in club history, just the one who carried the whole organization on his back for its first 11 years. He got the Angels to first base.
No one has done his job that well for that long.
Jim Fregosi is Mr. Angel.

I went with Downing, because he was just one of those players you always pulled for, and he was one of my favorites back then.

Grich played three seasons more with the Angels as opposed to Baltimore.
WInfield won his WS with Toronto.
Ryan pitched eight season with the Angels, four of his seven no-hitters were with the Angels, two 20-plus wins seasons, 138 of his 324 wins, and was the face of the franchise for a decade. Ironically he was brought over to the Angels in the Jim Fregosi trade and Fregosi's first game as manager, Ryan started. Ryan would not be in the HOF is it were not for his Angel career.
My results are single season bests; not the all-time Angels. I voted for Troy Percival as the all-time Angel.

Nothing is wrog with the Troy being considered the All-time Angel. He is smong the save leaders and was on the 2002 WS team and virtually his whole careeer was on the club, but overall, I believe Chance's 1964 CY season and Rayn's 1973 season were even better. Ryan had 2 no-hitters, 2 one hiiters, won 21 games, and 383 K's that season. It was quite marvelous to watch. BTW, both of his no-nos were on the road.

Where's Garret Anderson?
Of the old-timers, the ones that come to mind are Ryan, Tanana, Downing, Grich, and Lynn, although Mike Witt's perfecto against the Rangers is one of my first baseball memories.

ya gotta go with Jim Fregosi. His first 11 years years were there which were also the angels first 11 years. A 6 time all star for the angels he was their first good player. He also managed the angels for 4 years. So i would say he is their best all time angels palyer. Because when you think of him you think of the angels. But its too bad that people have forgotton of his contributions to the angels.

The old-timers seem to be split with Fregosi and Ryan, ironically, both were traded for each other. Tim Salmon is popular among more recent fans and also has good credentials. Grich and Downing also have a fair amonut of support and contributed greatly to the club, with Downing having a bit more (when I think of Angels) than Grich who had productive seasons with the Orioles.
I tend to think of Ryan and Fregosi, and Fregosi did manage the first AL West winning team in 1979, so that is another feather in is Angel cap. Oh yeah, Fregosi wore the halo topped cap virtually his whole Angel career.
