I used to play '04 and belted a ton of home runs and then I switched to '05 after Christmas and I am unable to belt many home runs. I have a created guy with 99 power both sides of the plate and the game tuning is on 50 power and I've played 70 games and have about 29 hoem runs. In '04 I had People like Aramis Ramirez and Manny RAmirez with like 50 home runs. Can anybody offer me tips?

Yeah. Go back to '04. I had the same problem (although I didn't cheat, I used the players I got, although I was known to turn fair trades and budgets off and trade bad players for guys like Manny, A-Rod, Pujols, et cetera). Maybe it was because I switched from PC to PS2 and I never was too good at MVP for the PS2...

It may sound harsh, but maybe you arent just very good at the 2005 version.

I play on the hardest setting with the power set to 0 and I have no trouble hitting Hr's.

Cubsfan97, what version are you playing? If you are using the PC version, go to http://mvpmods.com/ and get yourself a good datafile. You can hit homers, you just need to make some adjustments for your palying style.

i've noticed that each version of a game, (as in year wise) there's always a trick to it....like from 04 to 06 for NCAA the juking doesnt work as good, so you use spin move more often

i haven't played mine in a while because i screwed it up...oops. but you have to have good timing to hit home runs...it's much harder than 2003 which i have. if you have it for playstation 2 it's everything relies on where you move your left analog stick, the position of the pitch, and timing. if you can guess right with the analog stick your chances of hitting a homer goes way up. is there not going to be a 2006 version? i haven't seen anything about it...and if not what other good ones are coming out for 2006.

I agree partly. Im not good at Power but my team BA is like .362. After thinking bout it thoguh I prefer the average than the HRs. I also have it for Xbox.

With certain hitters you want to keep the left analog stick held up in a diagnal position while the pitch is on it's way. Keep it held there, and cutoff the outer half of the plate before you have two strikes. If you get ahead in the count, you're bound to get a good pitch to jack. With two strikes, still hold the analog stick up at a diagnal position, but you gotta expand the zone and be ready to quickly rotate it up and around for an outside pitch. The key is having the hitters eye on, and knowing what that pitcher has in his repetoire. By clicking down the left analog stick it'll show you his pitches. Also, you gotta master the art of check swinging, especially against pitcher that throw gas. Gotta be able to hold up your swing. Pretty sure the plate discipline attribute determines how easily a hitter is able to check his swing.

Unfortunately that's not possible.

I take that back, it can be done, but it's a one way street. You can start from scratch and create your own team with legends and by making trades with other teams, by going to the "manage rosters" section. Save that roster, then you can load it, and go into owner or dynasty mode and use it. Once you're in owner/dynasty and you've made changes to your rosters in there, you cannot save just the roster; you can only save the whole franchise/dynasty file.

As far as exhibitions, same thing.

You can save the rosters so you can use them outside of your dynasty, owner mode...You wont be able to export the roster, you will have to do whatever you did all over again....and then there is a "Save Roster" link, click on it and you can save the rosters. everytime you go into dynasty mode, owner mode, or restart the game, they will reset, so just save them everytime after these situations, and you will always have your rosters...i did this with my rosters....

Some skills I have mastered to become a fearsome power hitter in MVP '05:

You have to sense when the pitcher is a little wild. As soon as I get the sense that the pitcher is not throwing me strikes I start taking pitches until there are two strikes and reacting (swinging) before 2 strikes only if the pitcher makes an obvious mistake or if he throws me a change-up up in the zone, which leads me to tip number two:

If you play with the batter's eye on, swing your hardest and use an uppercut swing when you see green and the pitch is up but a strike. It is really REALLy easy to hit for power off change-ups up in the zone. That's my bread and butter.

I'm into 2007 in my dynasty (Seattle Mariners, but fantasy drafted), playing out every game (no simming here thank you)...my 2006 line-up did this as far as HRs:

2B) Jackie Robinson - 31 HR (104 SB)
RF) Carl Crawford - 22 (148 SB)
SS) Honus Wagner - 67 (112 SB)
DH) Justin Morneau - 49
3B) Mike Schmidt - 48
1B) Mark Teixeira - 32
LF) Wily Mo Pena - 59 (but he only hit .249)
C) Michael Barrett/Miguel Olivo (they're a GREAT platoon in this game) - 55
CF) Mark Kotsay - 14 (82 SB)

For some reason I've had trouble hitting as Kotsay...I think he doesn't do so well with my uppercut swings and pull-happiness. :)

Here's the trick to hitting homeruns, its a real time hitting strategy in this game, so it means you have to move the stick in teh right direction to either pull a ball, hit it to the opposite field, ground ball, fly ball etc. I have no problem hitting homeruns, it really just takes some time to get the whole real time swing thing down.

hey I found a trick, you can rain out any game! just keep on pressing play next then back over and over until it rains out! If you do it at an away series with a home series vs them comming up, you get an extra home game!

I always have a hard time with a high BA or SB. Jeter hit like 260 with 4 SB :o

BUT 40 Hrs :laugh Sheffield got like 60 and Arod got like 56! Im good at the Bombs.

Ive been working on the sliders in the game and I changed User delay steal speed to -10 and steal speed to 5 and slowed down the CPU because I can NEVER get them out when they try to steal.

I cant climb the wall for a HR but I can jump and dive really well for the ball.

I could never Climb the wall in ASB 05 either.

Easiest way to hit home runs is to hold the analog stick up and to the left (for a righty) before the pitch even comes, and adjust up and around from there as needed, for an outside pitch.

My man! Same here. Last season was all on all-star mode and this year is all on MVP mode.

I agree, no simming, last year I went 150-12 on A.S difficulty, playing every game.

The most HRs I've hit in a season is 68 (with 180 RBI)! I've also stole 100 bases in a season with a single player, it's not something I have trouble with. I get picked off more than I get caught by the catcher's throw though!
My biggest Win Streak is 44 games, I've thrown 5 Perfect Games, 5 No-Hitters & 1 other perfect attempt went to 8 2/3!!!
I've struck out 21 in a game with Jake Peavy & still lost LOL!
I've straight stole home 4 times, with 2 other double steal attempts, too.

2 things annoy me:

-Fielding, especially that climbing the wall mentioned above
-Getting Hit by Pitch... I NEVER get hit, I've played 5 seasons in O.M & got hit a grand total of 4 times!!

I'm intrigued to see if that rainout trick works, MVP here I come! :laugh

I get hit a lot, and I hit HR's alot.

My team steals 5 bases a year and last year I had Jeter, Figgins, A-rod and we only got like 5.

The last time I simmed a game was in my 1st season, I simmed like 10 or 15. Now im in my 3rd season, the 2nd one went simless, though I never play the Minor League Games, I normally do Manage Mode with MILB games.

I also always do fair trades and never edit players. Unless its Jersey #'s. I make sure there is no 2 of the same on my MLB team, and I make sure I dont use retired #'s. But there are 2 exceptions. Castillo is #6 which is Torres #. I still have Torre as my Coach. Beckett uses 21 when in real life, no one has used 21 sence O'neil retired.

Aww I can't believe you get hit, that's so unfair, I want to!!! Is there any way the amount the CPU hits you can be changed?

Besides my AAA team I'm not bothered with Minors, I manage the AAA & just sim the AA & A. They are usually all rubbish but this year all 4 teams in the organisation are 1st! :clapping

Last year my AAA and A went to the playoffs along with the yankees. all 3 won there "world Series"

Right now, A is 11-0. The other 2 are like 4-6 and smothin like that.

for now I gtg, I'll write more later maybe.

It could be that your throwing off speed or breaking balls when the CPU is stealing.

yea I thought of that earlier, Id throw like a change or slider 1st and then I'll throw a 4seam when the guy might run, but he never does.

What I've found in The Show is that you you press the button once you see your guy break to cover the base. This worked for me in MVP 04, too... haven't played 05 in a while.

Just pay attention to the size of lead the computer is getting. If the guy is going to go, he'll be two strides off the bag. You can usually pick over to first a couple times, and you'll see the guy take one stride back. Then you're safe. The tough guys are the ones that are intent on stealing, and no matter how many times you pick over there, they keep that same large lead. Don't be afraid to pitch out or throw a fastball up in the zone since its easier for your a catcher to throw on those pitches. Keep in mind how long your pitcher takes to get rid of the ball too. Certain styles just leave the catcher no shot. You can even go in and edit your pitchers and give them a different delivery (Niekro's is VERY quick to the plate I believe).

I don't get the high strikeout games much. :( My pitchers aren't exactly Santana though...my rotation is made of of guys who have good control and high stamina so I only get maybe 6 K/9 but I've only non-intentionally walked a batter 4 times in 2 1/3 seasons.

The fielding bugs that annoy me:

If a line drtive is hit right at a middle infielder, it ROUTINELY switches the fielder control either to the other MIF or to the outfield...I'm right there and the ball whistles through me for hits...ANNOYING.

When you try to get back on a ball and make a leaping catch, most of the time it leaps off to the side and you miss or it does a dive instead (Carl Crawford was going back for a HR ball in a recent game and was STANDING STILL under the spot where it was going to come down and I hit the leap button and it did a weird sideways dive and Crawford got a hernia...out 36 games...WTF!

I can never take out a double play...they always do it on me but even if I do everything right they always get the throw off.

Other weird annoying glitches.

It always rains in Seattle night games and it's always sunny in Seattle day games. ALWAYS. ALLLLWWAAAAAYYSS. Seattle gets a lot of rain in the Spring, but it's not a freakin' tropical rain forest. :)

Periodically the game will go snakey and put my vs. LHP line-up out there to face a right hander.

The Auto-utilize AI is retarded, and unusable so every time someone gets injured or suspended I have to go in and manually edit all of the rosters to accomodate.

Players are idiots. They'll have been on the DL for 15 days...they come back and because their contract says they're starters and they've missed a bunch of games they spend the rest of the year complaining about their playing time even though they've started just about every game.

still a great game, but I wish they could have made an '06 version to fix the bugs. :(

Robin Roberts has an insnaely quick slide step.

My catchers throw out about 30% of attempted base-stealers because when it's a fast guy on base I dod a decent job holding the runners and throwing fastballs when I can't get them to back up. Plus Barrett and Olivo both have good arm ratings.

I just got the game for PC a few weeks ago. I think it is a lot harder to hit homeruns. The first time i played MVP 04, I hit like 3 or 4. I didn't hit any in 2005 until my 3rd or 4th game. That was with Al Kaline pulling one at Polo Grounds.

:laugh I get them like 8 out of 10 times when they try to steal on me, I have Varitek though lol.

Try sliding away from the bag, downward diagonally on the thumbstick to break it up. If you do headfirst your players will usually get injured.

lol ya I've noticed the rain in Seattle night games too. When one of my players gets injured I just choose to manually edit because it saves time because I only have to get a replacement for the injured players position and not fix up my entire lineup.

I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS!

Did I mention that you can rain out any game you want? the only problem is if you rain out the last home game vs a team (like you dont play them at home any more) it will be an away game so you dont make money if its in owner mode.

I wish we could like say what we wanted in the game, like on a msg board, and EA (or who ever will make it) will listen and add it. I wish the parks were more real, like it doesnt matter what the field size is at a park, you will still hit the same about or hrs, just at smaller parks, the ball doesnt go as far as the larger parks. at Coors Field, the ball doesnt travel further than other parks on the east coast.

You need to push either diagnal down and left or diagnal down and right on the analog stick to take out the fielder. Depending on if the fielder steps across the bag, or touches it and steps back. Gotta pick the right side. Then you can up-end him, but obviously your runner has to be within take-out range. I'm with ya; very seldom can you actually stop him from throwing the ball, like the computer does so often to us, but usually just taking him out will cause a more wild throw if nothing else.

Nah. Came close with Pujols last year. He hit one that bounced right before that little walkway in dead centre.
