HoFer and Twinkies legend Kirby Puckett had a stroke earlier this morning. He's currently in surgery (or hopefully recovering) in an Arizona hospital. Please keep the Puckett family and Kirby in your thoughts and prayers.

I was shocked and distressed when the news of this flashed on ESPN. My thoughts and prayers are also with Kirby and his family. He is one of the classiest guys in baseball.

At this point, Kirby is listed as being in critical condition as he recovers from surgery to drain pooled blood from his brain. He's tough and I know he'll battle through this!

Thanks for the memories Kirby.
I do not visit this section of the forum often, but I wanted to take the time to say my thoughts are with the entire Twins family, Puck was a lifelong Twin. Which might not happen too often anymore with the angle this business has went.
:(
Sorry for the loss.

My condolances to Kirby's family and to Twin fans. Even though we later learned through that Sports Illustrated article that his "nice guy" demeanor was partly an act---at least the guy tried. He may be for Minnesota fans what Walter Johnson was for this franchise when it was in Washington.

So sad. He was too young but he achived greatness on the field. He was one of my favorites. I feel for his children. RIP Kirby, you will long be remembered.

I am truly stunned. Even when I heard "stroke," I was just convinced that he was too young to go. Hat's off to a man who squeezed a lot into a career that, like his life, was entirely too short.

he always left his heart on the field and that's the way it should be done. There are just not enough ballplayers like him.

All I can say is "Unthinkable". Great guy, fan favorite and World Series Hero. An accomplished player. Remember Kirby...

Eventhough he had a stroke, I did not expect him to go this early.
During the years that he played, I didn't have the options to follow baseball the way I do now. During those years he was an admirable guy te me.
Rest In Peace Kirby. May the baseball gods watch over you.

After having previously offered my sincerest condolences, I'm wondering if those here would like to have any kind of tribute to Kirby. Being it moments, photos, please do share.
Thx.

Kirby Puckett was one of my earliest heroes. He played low-a ball right here in my hometown in Tennessee, with the Elizabethton Twins. He had a great career, and it was a lot of fun to watch him. We'll miss you, Kirby. :(

RIP Pucks.
Here is a video tribute from the 1991 world series...I got chills watching his homerun from game six (pity they didn't show the catch from the same game though). http://www.mnstories.com/archives/2006/03/kirby_puckett_i.html Please note, the video is about 20 megs, so dial up users should probably avoid this.

I'm a lifelong tigers fan. I'm not a homer as far as kirby is concerned, but i'm a baseball fan and i was crushed when i heard the news. This guy was a real life rocky, i mean 5-8, heavy set guy, in his playing days i'm saying, wow and the best hitter avg. and power you can find. I just can't believe this, my mom had a stroke in the brain and survived, i was hoping kirby could do the same. Baseball lost a big part of the history of the game this week. RIP Kirby Puckett, a true hall of famer in every sense of the word

I never saw Kirby Puckett in person, never much liked the Twins and never even set foot in the state of Minnesota... but I loved and admired No. 34 and I was so sad and devastated when I heard he died. He's only a few years older than me and his passing was awful. God bless you good folks of Minnesota.

Back in the day, when athletes enjoyed the company of fans (and fans didn't try to profit off of signatures) I got to play darts with Kirby Pucket at the Sports Festival at the Met Center (old North Stars Rink, now home to the Mall of America). He had no problem signing my 1987 Topps baseball card. I also got to take shots on Chico Resch, on ice, when he was in full pads. I scored 1 of 3 shots (I think he let me score).
