This ESPN article (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2352795) states Jose Gullien has injured tendons in his wrist which require surgery and could be out three months. The Nationals will seek a second opinion. I don't blame them. I would be in denial, too.

Church should be the RF me thinks. He did pretty well playing RF when Guillen wasn't playing for other reasons. Only other guy I see competiting for job is Tucker, although if I were Kory Casto I'd try flexing my old OF muscles and glove again so I don't end up being a career minor leaguer.

I'm not good ship lollipopping by suggesting the article from the Gnats on Guillen didn't say it was three months in a row though that would explain the overwhelmingly pessimistic tenor of the headline.

You don't mean ol' 9 Team Tucker?
He was Wade's last blunder in Philly.
We lost a good young pitcher in a trade for that stiff.
In 18 games he hit a Ty Cobb-like .222 (remember Cobb's been dead 45 years and can't get around on a curveball like he used to).
He got 4 count 'em 4 hits but whiffed an equal number of times.
We miss him already....not.
If the Gnats played stadium rules for right field like "if it lands or rolls over the Nationals sweatshirt it's an out" and let the pitcher bat twice you would actually improve your chances of winning.

A day after finding out that he could be out for three months because of a left wrist injury, Jose Guillen learned on Saturday that his injury isn't as severe, but he will not be involved in baseball activities for seven to 10 days.

Damnit, Guillen, why do you always scare us like that? First it was out until May, then out until March, then out 3 months, now just 7 days? :grouchy

I saw this mentioned on another site but couldn't substantiate it.

Maybe denial is a good thing?

It wasn't Guillen's fault, blame it on the doctor who examined him.

Thank goodness for second opinions.

Apparently they got a third for good measure which concurred with the second. I hope that this is a sign that the Nats' luck is turning and MLB will announce an approval of the lease tomorrow. Also, Soriano will agree to play LF, and Bowden will announce his resignation.

Welll, the good news is that I can finally WORRY about these little things! And hopefully in a couple of months, we will have an owner who will give Bowden his walking papers for the Soriano fiasco!!!

His contract ends next month regardless of an owner or not.

Next steps:
(1) Get a new owner
(2) Fire Jim Bowden
(3) Hire a good GM if there is one out there
(4) Trade Soriano to the Mets for all their best prospects not named Lastings Milledge or Aaron Heilman (only ones Minaya WON'T give up)
(5) Hope we stay competitive by making some good trades for the LONG TERM.
(6) Be aggressive in free agency for 2007 and 2008.
(7) Make the playoffs in 2007.
(8) Win the NL East in 2008.
(9) Win the World Series in 5 games so we can celebrate in our brand new stadium.
(10) Watch the area around the stadium become one of the most economically successful neighborhoods in the DC city proper
(11) Go key Jeffrey Loria and Adrian Fenty's cars.

You forgot "acquire the properties on the stadium footprint by eminent domain" and "break ground on new stadium." I don't think the stadium will be ready until 2009, but if the Dodgers could play 4 years at the Colosseum, the Nats can play 4 at RFK Stadium.

I'd like to think that if the Nats win the World Series in 5 games it will be on the road, because we will have baseball's best record, and MLB will FINALLY follow the example of the NHL and NBA and have the team with the best record earn home field advantage. But hey---it's not that far a drive back to D.C. from Yankee Stadium and we will have time to greet the buses with a HUGE welcome home!

Not if we hire some crafty immigrants that will do the job for half the price at twice the speed with triple the quality. That will solve the overrun problem, too!

Also, it'll be good to see Nats baseball be associated with this:

We need a new stadium and only when one is built will the Nats future in D.C. be secure, but don't call RFK "junk." My eyes will be moist when they finally tear that place down...

If it wasn't for RFK there wouldn't be any Washington Nationals

RFK was our ace in the hole. We were the ONLY American city with a major league baseball stadium---not an expanded minor league stadium or a converted football-only stadium---that could host a baseball team. Ultimately, that is why MLB decided to move the Expos here. For all the deficiencies of RFK, we Nat fans have a lot to be thankful to that ol' lady.

And assuming nothing goes wrong to mess this up, I think the new owner should spend a LITTLE money sprucing up RFK a bit to make it a bit more attractive to fans, considering that the Nats will probably have to play there through 2008. (I don't expect the new park to be ready until 2009.) I'm not talking much, but improving the concessions would be a HUGE step in the right direction...
