The Caracas Lions of Venezuela, made YET another come from behind win, beating the Licey Tigers of Dominican Republic 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th.
Licey was leading 3-1, but 2 childish errors in the worst timing, cost the dominicans the games and the series.
Congratulations to the Venezuelan fans!! These sure adds up to the WBC, as we dominicans are seeking vengeance in a bigger stage...
And it things go as forecasted, we'll face each other 2 more times this year (round 1, and round 2)

At least we dominicans won't have to wait a year to get another shot at the venezuelan... We'll see each other in the 1st game of the WBC... And if things go as planned, we'll see each other again in the second round
Hopefully we'll get some vengeance there

Hey Licey....
Nice to see fellow Dominicanos here.
I watched the game ...and with disgust.
I was kinda peeved that they didn't show a replay on the final play.
From what I saw the fly ball hit the LFer in the head and rolled to the fence!!
Can you tell me who the LFer was and or was that also the same thing you saw?
PS:
Pujols is a TERRIBLE MGR!
Why would he bring in Jorge Sosa when Tavarez was pitching fine?
Sosa was rocked on his last outing! Didn't Hernandez hit a 3Run Shot off him and Ramon lead off the inning with an Opposite Field Single....damn shame!

Ok... One by one now... :P
The ball bounced of SS Erick Aybar... LF Napoleon Calzado was charging to the ball, but Aybar was running backwards and called for the ball... Calzado stopped, to avoid Aybar, and the Aybar "supposedly" lost the ball in the lights... When he tried to dodge the ball, it hit him in the head... UGLY PICTURE... :(
About the manager... It wasn't Pujols... The manager's Rafael Landestoy... I think he's on the Detroit Tigers system... But YES... HE'S A TERRIBLE MANAGER!!!
And you just saw the Caribbean Series... I was going to have a heart attack during the regular season and the playoffs

So the ball hit Aybar?
I still don't understand the whole play...the LFer should have took control and called him off he was in better angle, regardless...I blame the LF for not taking control...it was very embarassing for all involved in the play.
Then I was even more pissed when the LFer didn't run down the ball!
Can you explain why Sosa was brought in during the 9th when Julian was pitching very well?

If you guys think it was a miracle that Boston won with such a lousy manager as Terry Francona, multiply this by 1000 and you get the feeling we dominicans get from the Licey Tigers winning with the worst manager of our era: Rafael Landestoy. Believe me...i watched games played in DR.
Nevertheless, we´re the only team in baseball to win 3 titles with crappy managers in less than 10 years: Bob Geren, Dave Jauss and Rafael Landestoy.

Landestoy said: "Sosa's the one who've brought us here... I'd die with my closer any other game"
But it seems that he forgot that:
1. Julian Tavarez retired 6 straight, with only 16 pitches, and struck out 2
2. Jorge Sosa had pitched in 4 out of 5 games coming to that game (he pitched in all but one game)
3. Jorge Sosa was POUNDED by the same venezuelan lineup, in the same 9th inning, and by the same batters (the heart of the lineup), in our previous encounter
4. Sosa ain't Mariano Rivera (Landestoy always says that the yankees would bring Rivera in that case)
Yeah... HE'S BAD!

Who is this moron?
I just sat there watching ...thinking this is the same Sosa who was throwing meatballs and Ramon Hernandez & Co were having their flithy way with him the last time around.
And I still go back to Julian. The man was pitching beautifully and I have no clue why he didn't keep with him and if he got into trouble then bring in Sosa like he wanted.
He obviously manages with a "Paint by Number" book and he got hammered the two times he put Sosa out there.
Sosa got us here, what a joke.
That might have been pitching against Mexico and PR...but not against Venezuela.

You tell me
And their still some journalist here who say that a lot of the fans have been unfair judging Landestoy's decision (throught the season), and they think that we would forgot everything he did just because THE TEAM won the championship...

I did not see the play but I read that Calzado (LF) was laughing after the ball hit Aybar's head. If I am the manager, Napoleon Calzado is out of the game automatically for not running after the damn ball. The game did not stop after the ball hit the SS head and the Venezuelans were running the bases like Pedro por su casa.
Was that an inside the park home run?:D
I am sorry Licey for the joke. The same thing happened to one of the best
2B in the history of the Cuban National league. The Industriales were playing another team in the palyoff when I was still in Cuba. The ball hit Industriales 2B Juan Padilla (gold glove) in the head and they lost the game. I was mad as hell.
My condolence to you.:crazy

Hehhee, it's ok... It wasn't a inside the park homerun... since the winning run scored from first... Calzado did laughed after the hit... And didn't go after the ball...
On the other hand, he couldn't been taken out of the game, since that ended up being the final play of the series :o
I don't blame Calzado (LF) at all for the play... He had made an enourmous effort just PLAYING in the OF... He hasn't played in the OF in his entire life... He's originally a 3B. He was playing in the OF because of the lack of outfielders Licey has... It was Aybar's fault in my opinion, but I can of accept it, for all that he did throught the season...
The truth is, that without him, we wouldn't even made the finals...

Napoleón was running in line with the ball as any good outfielder would do
( even if he is not an outfielder , he was properly positioned in his run ) the fact is that when the ball hit Willy in the head it bounced toward the left field line and away from where Nap was coming . There is no way he could have pick it up . Of course , he was laughing - at first - because this is not a common thing to happen , but again he didn't stand a chance . He would had to stop right on his track , start running back for the ball , and by the time he could get it , Alex ( Gonzálex ) could have score twice . Alex was just flying from first with the crack of the bat .
And as you and cubano stated , Julián should have been allowed to continue his good pitching . I understand that both Willy and Napoleón did a good job through the season and through the Serie . It's just that this is baseball . In Puerto Rico we say " the ball is round , but comes in a square box " . :crazy

Alex was not running on contact. Why would he have been? There was only 1 Out I believe and Aybar had a beat on the ball. Alex was a few feet from the bag at First. Then he started running once the ball hit Aybar....the LFer then turned back and saw the ball and gave it a "the hell with that" look.
As I recall...I sat on my couching watching this in disbelief and Alex took foooooorever to score.
Alex is not someone who most could call a fast runner and if the LFer had chased it down he could have kept Alex at 3B, since he wasn't running on contact, or worse case there would have been a play at the plate...which in IMO is one of the most exciting plays in Sports. :waving

Looks like we were not watching the same game . Even though the channel that showed it here in Puerto Rico repeated the transmission , and i was able to see it twice .

Maybe...but I did not see Alex running on contact.
Whatever the case maybe, it's all moot now.
There were plenty of "Could of's" in this game and in the game where Sosa gave up the 3Run-Jack to Hernandez.

Hey tony alex was running on contact, he was between 1st and 2nd when the ball hit aybar. there was no way to get him out at home. I'm a fellow dominican and a big licey fan, I was heart broken but in baseball anything could happen. :(
I don't blame the manager for using sosa because he was great against las aguilas.

Pero esperate loco....
Sosa didn't do so well against them the last time out there.
He was crushed. I don't think the level of Competition was close.
These are better hitters.
Do you know where I could find Aguilas or Licey stats?

Not having watched any of the games on TV, but only having read game reports, I found the video of the final Venezuela-DR play . . . horrific and amazing at the same time.
What a peculiar ending to a great game.

Peculiar? I thought it was disgraceful!
I cannot for the life of me understand why the LFer did not call off Aybar.
I mean this is something that you learn in Little League.
But watching that play...it was like someone let all the air out of my balloon.
Ack....I dunno what else to say about it. LOL:mad:

Peculiar was simply my way of saying "disgraceful" (as you said) without offending any Dominicanos on the thread. I agree that players at that level should never have had any problems with that ball. The ball was the LF's ALL THE WAY. However, he isn't completely at fault, as the SS should have gotten the heck out of the way. A definite lack of communication.
At any rate, congrats to Venezuela. I think this gives them plenty of "mo" heading into the WBC. On the other hand, the DR should be fired up and ready to exact their revenge.

None was taken. I just wanted to express my disgust for the whole thing. :D A stronger word was needed.
I guess this one has to be chalked up to experience and we can look forward to the next Series.
