I would like to say Brett Boone because at his prime, he out does the rest at their prime.

I'd like to see Boone come back and at least be a backup. I would hope his bat would come back some, but if nothing else, he's still a very god defensive 2Bman.

I have a hunch that Kaz Matsui may be a pleasant surprise. It's like the stock market, sometimes you buy when everybody else has written the company off. I remember he showed some signs late last year.
Anderson Hernandez was Rookie of the Year this winter in the Dominican. I liked Jeff Keppinger in '04, but I wonder how he's recovered from his broken leg. That's a bad injury for an infielder.

Me, I would let Woodward play second this year, but there is no doubt that they will start Matsui. He sucks, but they pay him too much to be a backup. Even if Woodward doesnt play second, he literally can play anywhere. Hopefully Boone will have a surge of some sort this year, and possibly look like he did 5 years ago.

It would be best for the team if Anderson Hernandez won the job. Of course if Boone has a rebirth it has to be his job. As far as Matsui goes, it is his last year on his contract and magical things happen to players in the last year of their contract.Woodward is best the way he was used last year. The main hope is that somone steps forward.

I know Brett Boone (in a round about kind of way) and he will get the job. He has been working his tail off this off season to prove to himself and a few others that he is still a premier 2B.
Look for him to make a comeback. Plus the fact I want free tickets. ;)
By the way a great site

Anderson Hernadez burned the dominican winter league, I hope he does the same in spring training :clapping

I 2nd that.
I think the best bet is Anderson Hernandez.
He had a good Winter season and he'd complement the young infield.
Why play Bret Boone? The guy is a bum and he hasn't been the same since he got off 'the juice'.
Lets not kid ourselves....him and Barry Bonds have/had the same diet/training regiment.....alledgely.

Agree: Hernandez has the most upside. If Bret Boone is the starter at second, that wouldn't say much about the pool of available candidates...Hernandez will have to show, though, that his nearly oh-for introduction to the majors was an anamoly...

But think about it....if you play Boone, for how long would that last? A season...half a season? Why not let the kid play and grow? Let him take his lumps and it may pay off in the end.
Boone's time has come and gone.
Address the 2B issue now so that it doesn't come back to bite you in the arse later.

As I said earlier, the best thing for the team is for Hernandez to win the job. It doesn't hurt to have competition.

I think Hernandez is hands down the best defensive option, and he did hit well during winter ball, but the job is still Matsui's too loose. I'm not happy about it, but with the salary he's being paid and with his potential it's up to him whether or not Hernandez plays at second.

Ahh..Matsui the 'Dark Horse'.
If I'm Minaya, I don't care how much I'm paying this guy.
I will not allow Willie to give him any ABs....I'd have him pitch batting practice and maybe shag fly balls.
If any of the peanut vendors calls out sick, I'd throw him out there to start.
