The New York Mets new cable network SportsNet New York (SNY) announced Monday the channel will officially launch March 16 when the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves play a spring training game in Port St. Lucie. SNY reports the cable channel will air 11 spring-training Mets games between March 16 and April 2.
SportsNet New York (SNY) will feature New York regional sports and entertainment, including 125 regular season New York Mets telecasts. SNY also plans to broadcast live sports and local news coverage to the Tri-State area through three nightly “SportsNite” shows and a daily “SportsRise” show. SNY will be available to viewers in New York, Connecticut, most of New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania. In addition to Mets games, SNY is also the official year-round television home of the New York Jets, providing viewers the most exclusive coverage and access to the Jets organization and its players. SNY will also televise other professional and collegiate sports, including basketball and football games from the Big East and Big Ten conferences, as well as classic sports and event programming. SNY will also feature exclusive interview and magazine programs.
It would be great if they would broadcast some minor league games, so we could get a glimpse at the future.

Last night, we had on Newsday’s Neil Best who is now penning the “Sports Watch” column which focuses on sports media and sports business. He also covered the football Giants for 10 years, and recently wrote a big article on Team Message Boards likes ours here.
SNY was the very first topic of discussion.
Here is the link:

The interview runs for exactly 40 commercial-free minutes. I hope you find it informative.
Here are some of the topics that we covered in the interview (listed in the order in which they were discussed and with some expounding wherever possible):
--The new Mets Network Sportsnet New York (SNY)
--launching 3/16
--no agreements yet in place with Dish Network, DirecTV or
Cablevision, but they are “talking”
--confident that they’ll make Opening Day 4/3, since the
market is already set with YES.
--Sports applying upward pressure to cable bills.
--The Thurs/Sat NFL package will really force the issue
--Distributors don’t like ala carte channel arrangement
--The new SNY Mets analysts (Cohen, Hernandez and Darling)
--The Jets’ relationship with SNY
--Neil’s take on NFL coaches not allowing assistants to speak to
the media
--Movement on the new stadiums (stadia?) in the Bronx and
Flushing.
--The Super Bowl/Playoffs matchups and ratings
--ESPN Radio’s weak signal
--Tiki Barber’s “outcoached” comments
--Neil’s memories of Wellington Mara (as well as Mr. Tisch)
--Sports Message Boards
--including Neil saying that “It is a fact that beat writers
look there every single day.”
--Roy Simmons
--The snacks on “Mike’d Up”
--Sid Rosenberg
--The final game of the ESPN Sunday Night football crew and the
new pairing for MNF
--The Islanders
--Eli Manning, including the press coverage of him, Ben
Roethlisberger, Terry Bradshaw and the Mannings, Ron Dayne over
Shaun Alexander
--Differences between covering media people vs. covering athletes
--James Carville getting a Sports Talk show on XM

For those who are interested.......
I just received a notice from Time Warner Cable stating that SportsNet NY (the new METS network) will launch on March 1 on Channel 26.
TWC is moving FSNY to Channel 79, effective the same date.

HD, I just hope every cable company carries SNY, so far there is no agreement with Cablevision, Direct tv, Dish net and alot of small cable companies. The only ones assured of seeing SNY is Time Warner and Comcast customers because they are partners in SNY.

What an absolute treat Mets fans got last night! :D
Due to some serious malfunctions from their NYC HQ, SportsNet was forced to broadcast the game from Vero Beach COMMERICAL FREE! While I am not a total Mets fan, I can tell you it was wonderful! :clapping

Well the baseball season is here and Dish Network Satellite subcribers cannot watch the Mets because they do not carry the new regional sports network SportsNet NY. I have started a petition you can sign that may carry some potential weight with this satellite provider. The petition is as follows:
To: EchoStar Satellite L.L.C.
To: Dish Network ( EchoStar Satellite L.L.C.)
Dear Dish Network Satellite customers, New York Met Fans, and Sports Fans,
We the viewers in the New York Metropolitan area subcribing to Dish Network would like to be able to receive the new regional Sports network SportsNet New York (SNY). SNY is a 24/7 regional sports and entertainment television network that will feature 125 regular season New York Mets telecasts as well as provide year-round television coverage of the New York Jets. SNY will also televise other professional and collegiate sports, including basketball and football games from the Big East and Big Ten conferences. This petition is to inform Dish Network that there are many customers out there who want this channel and want to see New York Mets baseball in 2006 and beyond. Dish Network should know that anyone on this petition is a candidate to terminate their subscription with Dish Network and find another satellite provider that will carry this new network. Let’s work together and bring SNY into the homes of Dish Network subcribers. Currently, DirecTV satellite customers can view SNY and SO DO WE!! WE WANT SPORTSNET NEW YORK NOW!
http://www.petitiononline.com/SNYDISH/petition.html
I encourage Dish Network subscribers to sign this petition! Pass the word. Let's Go Mets and Let's Go Dish Network!!

For those interested Dish Network Satellite subscribers, Dish Network as of April 6 is now making SNY in Standard Definition available to viewers in the NY area who are subscribing either to America's Top 120 or 160 packages at no additional cost! SNY can be seen on channel 438. If enough interest is generated Dish may also add the HD signal as well at some point in the future. Subscribers should call Dish and request the HD signal to also be added. 1-800-333-DISH.
LET'S GO METS!!
