I like how this ballpark was transformed from a symmetrical park to an asymmetrical one with varied wall heights like the high RF wall. That sort of thing makes the game more watchable and interesting IMO.

Yes, there is. The station is also served by Metrolink (commuter rail), but the schedule is pretty much useless for night games, and not much better for day games. The Amtrak schedule is fairly good, but somewhat pricey.

If the Big A had a scenic view beyond the outfield--either of mountains, water or downtown skyline--then I think a return to the simple pre-Rams stadium would be fine.
That being said, the view beyond the outfield at the Big A is of several expressways, powerlines and a few non-descript office park type buildings. So I don't necessarily blame the Angels in including the rock quarry or adding a tall out of town scoreboard to make the park a little more unique.

But that's not I was referring to or what he asked, I believe. Light rail is like regular bus service on an electric rail line--serving stops every 20-30 minutes.
A diesel locomotive making a few stops a day is a completely different animal, especially when you're talking about commuting to and from a game.

I think it's kinda cool. Certainly not worse than the "Iron Triangle" as seen from within Shea Stadium.

The original is the best and they do need to move the "Big A", also do something with that CF tarp.
From my experience on the internet i will say that Bobby_Ayala and mrakbaseball are the same person. I just can't understand how someone from the opposite league would have such a big problem with another team. It's not the Yankees who we've met in the WS plenty of times, not the Red Sox who would come and trash our site after getting Manny, not Angels fans with an inferiority complex even if their only WS came at the hands of roiders. Only guess i can make is we are in the largest city on the west coast and teams from the northwest are overlooked, people hardly pay you any attention up there, it's ok pal have a hug.

The low overhangs are really the only thing that gives away the age of this ballpark. From the concourse area you have a bunker slit view out onto the field, and you lose any ball in the air. I like the rubberized flooring in the concourses though, it gives it a more Disneyish and modern feel, and it's different from the open concrete in most other parks. Amazing what a little paint and some landscaping can do for a 40 year old ballpark

Wow, I thought the Mets and Yankees fans are over the top about who has a better stadium !
I don't get the venom about Angels Stadium and Dodger Stadium.
I first went to Anaheim Stadium about 6 years ago. I absolutely love the place. I can not find anything wrong with it. After going there, I returned to Shea and Renovated Yankee Stadium and thought "these two places gotta go". Comfort, amenities, food, parking; everything was better in Anaheim.
I also went to Dodger Stadium. Built in 1962, I found it way better than Candlestick ('61). And it was so much better than Shea for baseball, even though Shea was 2 years older...it must have been that baseball only vs multipurpose stadium design that made Dodger Stadium so much better. DS was also better than RYS in every category too. I wondered how a stadium from 1962 could not only be better than one opened in 1964, but far better than one reopened in 1976.
And you guys have a good chance at an all-LA series this year, so just sit back and enjoy it !

At NYS that overhang is only in the RF corner due to the necessity of cramming it in between the el tracks. The rest of the stadium has little to no overhang between the lower and main decks.
At AS, however, the deep and low overhangs go all the way around the stadium--not by necessity, but by design.

That's how stadiums were built back in the '60s and '70s -- extended cantilevers bring upper deck spectators closer to the field.

The problem in Anaheim isn't the length of the cantilever, but the way they built the club level so close down to the lower deck. The entire terrace level is covered with the club deck hanging over your head like a low ceiling. I've sat in those seats and it's kind of claustrophobic--not to mention not being able to see any ball hit above 20 feet into the air.
Not all stadiums were designed with this flaw. Royals Stadium wasn't. It's a similar setup, but they allowed for a few extra feet between the lower deck and the club level, which makes a world of difference in the viewing experience.

One of the many great things about Angel Stadium is that because the seats directly behind home plate are somewhat elevated, when you're watching on TV, you don't have to look at a bunch of idiots sitting directly behind home plate, unlike at Fenway or Dodger Stadium, for example.

Yes, I completely agree. It feels so uninviting seeing a a huge wall with the occasional person walking by. The Metrodome had it's last baseball game, so knock one off that list. Anaheim and Cleveland comes to mind.

I think its preference - for me personally, I rather be closer to the infield action (e.g. be able to see the movement on pitches) and under an overhang rather than sitting upstairs with the ability to track fly balls.
That's why at Shea I always would purchase the loge back row seats before something in the upper deck (for the same price).

People wanting to see fans sitting behind the backstop obviously didn't have to deal with those fake umps sitting behind the plate at Jays game at a bunch of games this season.
Also, while not being able to see balls in the air isn't ideal, I'm not sure it's such a huge deal. I mean, what's going to happen when the ball is in the air?
