According to WIP this morning, Gillick earlier this week announced that the Phillies would not win the division this year. Aside from the fact that such a statement is obviously true, is it true that Gillick actually said it? If he did, then that confirms what we have always known, that the Phillies are not in this thing to win; they just want to empty your pockets. Such a statement would also confirm that that the odious Bill Giles has never really stepped down. The mindless little porker was often dumb enough to reveal that money concerned him more than quality and that he was never willing to spend what had to be spent to put a winner on the field. Once again, how can anybody justify spending anything at CB Park this year?

its true, he said it. Its also true that in the previous breath he admitted the Phils need more starting help. I beleive thats what he would want, but its way obvious by now that Pat is definately not in control.

The Phillies off season kabuki theater proceeds as planned.
First make a lateral move that cuts salary.
Second deplore the going rate for quality starters and refuse to sign one.
Third sign a parade of nomadic hacks as the "pieces" needed to compete.
Fourth announce greater expectations from lesser or declining parts of the whole.
Finally predict all manner of finishes through your hydra of incompetent management.
