Willie Smith died of an apparent heart attack at his home in Anniston, Alabama. He was 66.

Willie Smith started his career in the Negro Leagues, and he broke into the Majors with the Tigers in 1963. Willie went on to play for the Angels, Indians, Cubs and Reds.

Smith was a member of the Cubs organization from 1968-1970.

Wow. It must have been rough for him coming from the Negros. Do you have any of his stats with the Negro League?

Love the Cubs 23

Wille was a GREAT Cub. I remember seeing him play for us in the late 60's. Who can ever forget the shot He hit to win the game? It is always sad to see old cubs go. My prayers go out to Willie's family.
