My middle name is Steven, which can be adopted to Steve. Nothing for position players (Garvey isn't better than McGriff, Sax isn't better than Maz and Finley isn't better than Terry, Mays, or Keeler. After that there's not much). I can steal the whole starting rotation though.

Now, are we using our middle name and the player's first name, or our middle name and the player's middle name?
If the latter, well, I've got one Hall of Famer (if an iffy one in Heiny Manusch)... if the former, by far the best is Gene Dale... who was pretty bad.
Interestingly, a lot of the people with the name Emmet were named after the same guy I was... of the 22 guys in BBRef's database with the name "Emmet," 6 of them are named "Robert Emmet." I don't have the first half, but my middle name is in honor of the Irish revolutionary executed in 1803.

I've got an embarrassing mistake to admit. Thomas is my middle name, not Frank, so by the rules of the game, I simply cannot put him in and am "replacing" my replacement with jalbright's Fred McGriff.
I can, however, replace Steve Rogers with Tom Seaver!:D Gotta look for more Tom's.:lookitup

I think we'd be better off with Steve Rogers than Mike Cuellar. They both pitched about the same amont of innings, Cuellar has the better won-lost record. But, Cuellar got to pitch for Earl Weaver's O's while Rogers pitched for the Expos. Rogers' ERAs are better, and I think that's a better representation of their ability.

Wow, that is actually a pretty good all-star team, maybe better. But, too bad I had a very cruddy middle name. Luckily I could do Ty Cobb I did my part but now I can't do anymore ( I think )

I guess I can't contribute to this thread. I was named after Robert Taft (senator from Ohio and brother of the president). The only Taft that ever played was Taft Shedron "Taffy" Wright.

I just got done ranking my top 70, and I got Cuellar in my top 25 lefties all-time, while Rogers didn't even bid to be ranked. I'll have to look into that.
Bond, Bridges, Burgmeier, Davis, Glavine, Henke, John, McCarthy, Tresh
Bond, Henke, and Davis are bad enough, but how could I forget about the guy I just ranked among the top 10 LHP ever?:o :(

Interesting thread, and not a bad team at all. Reading through it I thought I might be able to improve it as my middle name is Scott, but I don't think so - "Scott" generates 75 hits at baseball-reference, most of which don't even qualify (i.e., the only HOF'er is Donald Scott Drysdale, the next two best are Mike Scott and George Scott). After that it's down to Scott Briosius (never liked him, and hate the Yankees), Scott Elarton (liked him as an Astro, but hasn't exactly turned into a star), Scott Cooper, Scott Bailes, Scott Bradley (decent players that I actually remember), and it gets really thin from there. Basically, there haven't been any great ballplayers with the first name Scott. :(
