Ok, Mays left the Giants in 1972. Bonds debuted with the Giants in 1993. So who was the best Giants position player between 1972-92?

The candidates:

Jack Clark
Will Clark
Bobby Bonds
Kevin Mitchell
Chili Davis
Matt Williams (although he wasn't really good until Bonds arrived)
Robbie Thompson
Bill Madlock
Darrell Evans
Jeffrey Leonard
Willie McCovey

Will Clark by a mile. McCovey had a better overall career, but 1973 was his last year as a Giant.

It's between the Ripper and the Thrill, and I lean to Will. He was a better position player than Jack, and ultimately put up better numbers. But it must be said that Jack played on some of the worst Giants teams of all time with no protection or help, so that clearly would hurt his numbers. And Will played on two Division winners and had the likes of Williams, Mitchell, Leonard, Thompson around him. Jack had Terry Whitfield and Johnny Lemaster. :ughh

without hesitation i selected will clark.
the thrill has a breadth of credentials that none of the other listed giants players do.

it could be interesting to see our choices for the best individual seasons of the most recent generation of san francisco giants players not named willie mays and barry bonds.

hmmm...

Or do you mean his last GOOD year as a Giant. I do belive he finished his career in the Orange and Black in the late-70s/early-80s.

Yes, Willie's 1977 seaosn was special. He was Comeback Player of the Year. I think he hit .280 with 28 HR, and 80 RBI.
