I feel sorry for Joe Girardi. He signs his deal before Florida starts their fire sale. His team looked like:
LF: Cabrera
CF: Pierre
RF: Hermida
3B: Lowell
SS: Gonzalez
2B: Castillo
1B: Delgado
C: Lo Duca
The rotation was going to be young, but he still would have Beckett in there. The NL East, IMO, will be weaker this year (Mets fans, your team does not have enough pitching depth and I see the loss of Leo Mazzone as being huge for the Braves) and may have been winnable for the Marlins with the team that they had. Girardi now has to contend with a team made up of Jeff Conine, Dontrelle Willis, Miguel Cabrera, and then about 20-something rookies.

I think he would not have signed the deal if he had known.
But on the other hand it is a tremendous challenge to prove his qualities as a manager.
I wish him all the luck in the world!!

I don't know what he would have done, but my guess he would have signed up if he had known. There are only 30 ML managing jobs and Joe Torre has the one he wants. Also, if he flops in Miami no one will blame him. If, miraculously, he succeeds he will get all the credit which will make him one hot property.

They'd be crazy to sign Frank Thomas to play in the field unless they WANT him to get hurt and play 40 games.
And being the Marlins, I wouldn't put it past them.
