In hindsight I miss the "REAL" Expos - I've spent so much time researching Expos history that now I think of the team from 1998 & after differently than 1997 and before ... the last 7 seasons, except for a few great moments (i.e. 2003) were miserable ... I don't miss Frank Robinson, Tony Tavares, the art-collector and his midget step-son ...

But do I miss travelling half a day to get to the Stade, do I miss Jarry Park, I miss Vlad, Rock, Eli, Cro, Hawk, the Kid, Sigh, El Presidente and the remaining cast of charatcters .. sure do!

I sure miss them. I miss the search for the results. I miss positive feeling when I saw that they won and the anger when they lost.

To me it is a lot easier to bear, because I am not from Montreal and I have three other teams to root for. But they were sure my second favorite team.

I will always cherish the two Expos caps I have.

Hi everyone! I can't believe I just found this site being a life-time baseball fan. I'm from a coaster city in Mexico named "Mazatlan" (you might've been there if you were a spring-breaker, hehe ;) ), with its own baseball team named "Venados" (Deers) who won the 2005 Caribbean Series.

Anyway when I found this thread, many memories came to me again... It was mid december 1990, a few days before Christmas, when wandering around a store, I suddenly saw it... it seemed funny at first glance, so I took a second glance... it wasn't funny! it was quite outstanding among the others!... it was a Montrčal Expos cap; the first model they wore: white, blue and red.

I was 13 y/o, completely broke at the time, wishing to have in my pocket the $20 USD it costed. Then, like fallen from heaven, there she was: my mother (1953-2004)... I begged for money like a dog! :p, I promised I would behave (didn't! :p), promised more than a politician and after all that struggle, I got it as one of my Christmas presents, maybe one of the most reminded gifts I've ever got. From that day on, I knew I would cheer for the Expos no matter what... and the years went by... some thrilling seasons, like the 1994 season, I was in the US at the time, I was 17 y/o and eager to attend to a MLB game at San Diego, hoping the Expos were playing against the Padres those days I was staying there, but they didn't... then, the strike.. Oh, my good Lord, they were first in NL and now they suspended the season! I felt frustrated like no other time in my life...

And then, one of those days, one of my friends, a girl from Montrčal I met over the Yahoo! chat quite a few years ago, gave me the stunishing notice: Lacking attendance, The Expos were broke and the other MLB teams were to buy them... It sound bad, very bad... the rest is history. I was eager to sell my soul if that got me a ticket to attend my beloved Expos' last season's game. Some tears rolled down my face when the last man was out... It was the end of the Expos and a part of my teenage memories was taken apart from me...

So my answer to that question is: YES! A LOT! I do miss them althoug I never got the chance to watch them play live.

I saw them the night they crushed the PHillies 8-0 and tied the MArlins (who lost 9-0) for the wild card lead.

I miss them because of their ability to develop players and a lot of them. Had they been able to retain players, they may have fielded one of the greatest teams of all time. The 1994 team was the best in baseball before the season was canceled, and a World Series victory could have been the start of something big.

I think the first nail in the coffin was Olympic Stadium, the second one was the strike shortened 1994 season, and the third was baseball economics. It bothers me that MLB didn't try harder to save the franchise in Montreal.

I miss the Expos. I was so glad I got a chance to see them play in Montreal in their last year. I saw them play the Cubs on 8-30-04.

It seems so many great players played for the Montreal Expos at one time or another. Al Oliver, Pete Rose, Andre Dawson, Tim Raines, Gary Carter and Randy Johnson. Also many good role players like Rex Hudler and Wallace Johnson.

The Expos will never be forgotten.

Two years ago, I made the trip to Montreal to see the Expos. I was there the last week in August, first week of September. Saw them play the Dodgers and Cubs. Tim Wallach was introduced, was a bit reluctant to come out of the dugout, but got a standing O fromthe 18k+ in attendance. I had to go to see them one last time.

Last year, '05, I followed the Nats, I guess it was mainly because of the players. But my heart really wasn't in it. And now, after all the trades making the team hardly recognizable anymore. I may have become one of those who has fallen by the wayside. I don't really follow any team anymore. Oh, I still check the Nat's boxscore everyday, but I also check the Angels( Vlad, Cabs, Izturis and Rivera) and the Rangers(Wilks).

It just ain't the same, and will never be again.

The same goes for this forum. Oh, I keep having a look, but my participation is way down.

For the first time in nearly 50 years, my MLB interest is fading very fast.

By the way, mikey s, it's good to see you're still checking in.

Being Canadian, and from a largely French neighborhood, it's impossible not to miss them. But they're a lot closer to my new home, and now I can finally go see them. I care, but I care less than the rest of you.

Yes, I miss the Expos. Very much. Baseball isn't the same without them. It also isn't the same since they went to three divisions and the Brewers went to the National League.

Speaking of Tim Wallach, I liked him as we share the same birthday.

I confess I Miss the Expos of Montreal, when i was very much-younger,i had a friend, who adopted the Expos,He was also a big fan of the Montreal Canadiens,The American Basketball Association, off the chart kinda teams..Well I was much more a "conservative",with my allienances, growing up here in New England,Bruins,Red Sox,Pats,Celtics,etc...When we were growing up,we got our hands on as many APBA,or strat-o-matic games, that we could play...we played for hours on end......I can still remember it vividly..I can still remember,my 67 Red Sox,defeating his 73 Expos in a 7 game series,on APBA game, with 4 hitless innings of relief by John Wyatt, and Jose Santiago, winning 2-1...When we got a little older,we didnt play as much as we used 2,but(when we did)The Expos were a damn good team in the mid 70s...He got his revenge,The Expos,Carter,Dawson,Rodgers,That Outfield,Dave Cash,et al,beat my 75 Red Sox,or The Phillies,or The Reds,of that era...We got a lot older, and,"those games"didnt happen much anymore, but in 1995,we happened to meet again,we had a chance to talk about how the strike of 94,prob cost the expos their chance to be in the WS,well for the last time,we rolled the dice, and played that game, again,i think i was the 93 Phillies, well i beat him in the series like 4-1,it was a good weekend....My friend died at 47 about 4 yrs ago,and thats why i miss the Expos:atthepc

As a dbacks and cubs fan, I can say that I do miss the Expos. I always thought they fielded a good team. Usually games against them were fun to watch. I havent seen that with the nats so far. I honestly think the Expos got gipped.

I soooo miss my Expos, I'm like a baseball orphan, before they moved man, I knew about every team and new players, now, not so much. I miss hearing the games on the radio, I used to listen to the french broadcast, nothing beats a bright summer day outside on the lake listening to Jacques Doucet and Rodger Brulotte call an Expos game, if god was a baseball announcer he would have Jacques voice, the best. I still love baseball but I dont have a team really, i guess I'll follow the METS this year, Pedro seems in fine shape and well Gary won a World Series with them so.

I'll tell you how I found this forum, I actually googled "I miss my Expos" and found you.

Thanks for the memories.

I will always miss the Expos...from the first time I walked into the Big O in 1985, to the late nights of listening to Van Horne and Singleton on the radio, to the daily treks to the Stade with my High School girlfriend to see the games in 87-89. She kept my Tim Wallach jersey after we broke up!!

The day they left Montreal...I gave up on the sport I loved...MLB.

Who can forget the sunny afternoon in LA when El Presidente was El Perfecto?

I'm sorry that Montreal lost its team (especially since it seems due to the scheming of Selig and Loria), but I really don't miss them. They always seemed to have the Mets number and in their new incarnation this is less so. I really don't miss their horrible stadium or garish uniforms either.

I miss 'em. My brother and I flew all the way from Seattle to Boston, then trekked our way out to Montreal in a car to see the Expos play in their last season at the Big O. What a humungous {empty} stadium! You could really see the Olympic glory the stadium once held. What a great city as well. There were only about 3,000 people at the stadium total, but it was still a good time. Patterson pitched a great game, and there was even a 'Grand Chalem' (sp? for grand slam in French) as the Expos beat the D-backs. It seems almost strange that Montreal had an MLB team as there didn't seem to be that many fans, but I did like the Expos. I even bought the team magazine for that final year and still have it in great shape in my bookshelf. The one thing that was great though was I bought 2 tickets for $20 Can. 3 rows behind homeplate...and that was before the Canadian dollar was so strong!

I was looking through an old photo album the other day and noticed a picture of my daughter and I in our Expos caps after playing catch in the yard. She wanted that hat (the old tri color one) because was a huge Expos fan. She wore that hat day in and out through the summer of '98 and whenever we played catch. I first became an Expos fan because of Rusty Staub. I treasured that card. Funny what memories a picture can bring back.

The first major league game I ever went to was Montreal vs Philadelphia at Veterans stadium, So I always had a soft spot in my heart for the Expos.
It seems like MLB was dead set in moving the Expos, and did nothing to keep them in Montreal. It is a shame.

I'm a Red Sox fan, but when I was living in Ft. Lauderdale, I'd usually hit some Expos ST games (West Palm Beach was about 45 min from my house), as well as a lot of WPB Expos games..I still have ticket stubs from those games as well as a WPB Expos t-shirt and cap.

Those were great times and I miss going there...

Grew up in a dead zone out in the sticks near the Maine-New Brunswick border, and until they ran cable into the area very recently all I got was Canadian TV because the American towers were weak and on the other side of a large hill -- no signal at all. I only got to see the Sox when they played the Jays. And I saw plenty of the Expos.

In a way, they were actually my first team. Sox on the radio, Expos or Jays on TV. Spent a lot of afternoons that way.

I do miss them. It was too long ago to remember too many of the players, but Raines was there, and so was Galarraga. It was the late 80's when the Expos were sometimes good, sometimes very good.

Some day baseball will return to Montreal, you mark my word on that. The Montreal market is too big to ignore indefinitely, and there's a few struggling teams, especially the Marlins but also maybe the Pirates or Royals, who would benefit from a new home.

Even if not, it's been 10 years since the last league expansion, so going by history we're probably in a 6 year window of waiting for another wave of new teams. Montreal will probably be part of that.

Shootmaster_44

I miss them deeply. I wear my Expos hats, shirts and jerseys with pride and always get comments on how everyone misses them. I never did get the chance to head to Stade Olympique from Saskatoon to see them play at home.

But I still get chills remembering the Jays/Expos series in 2002, when I saw them play at Skydome. That game is likely the closest to a playoff atmosphere I have ever been a part of. The crowd was about 60% Expos fans and 40% Jays fans and for about an inning and a half the Expos faithful were chanting Let's Go Expos, only to be followed by the Jays fans repeating Let's Go Blue Jays. I remember the smells of the ballpark, the taunts from Jays fans towards the Expos bullpen (Hey Joey (Eischen) we love you in Ottawa!) and being able to see Youpi. I was in Toronto this summer and caught a Jays/Rays game and for some reason it wasn't the same. I expected the same smells, atmosphere etc. as that one weekend in 2002 and I was very disappointed.

I would love it if next spring, some Montreal business person convinced the Nationals and the Jays to play one more Pearson Cup. Have the Nationals wear Expos uniforms for one more game and play it at Olympic Stadium. I think with all the nostalgia surrounding the Expos and all the fans like me who'd fly across the country for the game, they would have 35,000 or more in the crowd. If the NHL can do it for the Jets fans in Winnipeg, why can't MLB do it for the fans of Nos Amours?

Well, actually, Expos gear are now more popular than they've been for a long time in this city. It's now retro chic, so all the cool kids wear it. You can find Expos paraphanelia much more easily now that then in most stores in the city. Now, for those who don't live here and rely on the Internet, I couldn't say.

Hey NYMFAN47 - I found this tshort and one that had the Montreal canadiens insignia on it on the web site listed below.

It took about a month and a half to get them but it was worth it. They also had a number of other tshirts including the Mets.

I just accessed the web site and the section on sports tshirts in no longer listed. If I were you I would contact the web master and request these shirts and I will do the same.

It seems strange that all of the shirts can be off-line. I would expect the Expos as the demand has diminished.

I will let you know if I hear from the web master and would appreciate it if you do the same
