this is bad news no matter how you slice it.
did they announce this a while back and i just missed it? if not, why would they not announce until now and sit on it for over a month?

This has been known for awhile thus Prior filing for arbitration awhile back with Patterston, Hairston, etc...

how is it bad news? its been expected for quite some time. certainly nothing to lose any sleep over.

Because they hoped to trade him before now. They can't squeeze his $3mil. raise into the payroll without adding a McDonalds sign above the scoreboard.

If Prior didn't file for arbitration he would have made 5+ million this season, now he's looking at 6-7 million for the 2006 season.

Prior's agent informed the Cubs of this decision Nov 29th...they've known about this for some time
