Hello,
Baseball fan from Sweden here.
I wanted to purchase a few of the best games from the last season. Which games do you consider the best and most exciting games from 2005. Please name the date and also why you think that och those games were the best. It doesn´t hurt if it involves the Red Sox since I´m a fan of the Sox but it doesnt have to be.

Not sure of the date (October 9th I think), but the Astros-Braves NLDS game 4 that went 18 innings and lasted 5 hours and 50 minutes
Longest game in playoff history, very dramatic

Nationals @ Padres 9/17
Padres losing 5-0 in the 9th, Randa hits and RBI single, Khalil hits a game-tying grandslam in the 9th. All of this with 2 outs. Then Ramon Hernandez hits a game-winning 3 run homer in the 12th inning to give the Padres a win. This win also marked the possible wrap up for the division.

Opening Day at Dodger Staduim I though it was over in the 8th for us when Kent grounded in a DP and Drew stuck out. The first 2 weeks of the season gave way to a pitiful showing by the Blue
I enjoyed Jose Gullien after being booed by Angel fans hitting a HR to give Washington a lead in the 8th after Donnelly was kicked out of the game for cheating, Classy Angel fans punching Ryan Church on the left field wall.
Just a terrible game for the Angels:clapping :clapping

Yanks come back from a 10-2 deficit and go on to win 20-11 thanks to a 13-run 8th inning.

Mets/Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
Pedro Martinez went 7 1/3 innings without allowing any hits, and in the bottom of the 8th inning with the Dodgers trailing 1-0, Antonio Perez tripled to break up the no-hit bid and Jayson Werth followed with a 2-run shot to left-center. In the 9th, Brad Penny allowed a double to Marlon Anderson, who was thrown out at the plate trying to tie the game, and the Dodgers won 2-1.
The Chris Burke solo shot to knock out the Braves was also a good game, followed by the Angels/A's game where Jason Kendall scored the winning run off a boneheaded mistake by Francisco Rodriguez (the A's were trailing 5-2 with 2 outs in the 7th, I think).

Game 2 of the ALCS another bonehead Angel mistake when Josh Paul threw the ball back to the mound putting the winning run on

I remember some game: Braves at Cardinals on a sunday (mid-august), Hudson vs Carpenter...Atlanta up in the 9th inning, bottom of the ninth and Cards win thanks to a walk off Grand Slam by Eckstein! Unforgettable!
Another great game (not a pitching duel) was Angels and Yankees (july 31, I was at yankee stadium, 1 week holiday in New York); two days after, Shea Stadium, Brewers at Mets, another wonderful game with a Mets win thanks to Piazza in the 11th inning.

July 22, 2005 - STL 2, Cubs 1 in 11 innings
Zambrano Vs. Carpenter. both throw 9 innings of 1 run ball, with Zambrano turning in the better of the two great performances.
but, as has been the case for years now, the bullpen lets a great outing go to waste

I dont remember the date. But the Dodgers came back and beat the Braves after a Braves hitter hit a grand slam I think, then Bradley came right back with a grandslam of his own.

The best game for me was The Cardinals comeback in the top of the ninth againt The Reds. They were down 6 runs ... 9-3 in the ninth, came back to score 7 runs in the top of the ninth to win 10-9.
Great half an inning.

Opening Day: Reds come back in the bottom of the ninth with 3 runs with a walk-off homer from Joe Randa in his first game as a Red. Then the season kinda got worse and worse for me.

July 16th, at Wrigley. Rookie Zach Duke pitched a masterpiece, rapped his first MLB RBI on a sac fly, and beat Maddux and my Cubs in one of best pitching duels I've ever seen. Neither man was overpowering, but they were both hitting their spots and frustrating the opposing hitters.

One game I remember especially from '05 was the June 12th Red Sox/Cubs game at Wrigley, in which Wakefield pitched very well and also scored all the way from 1st on a double. No big deal you might say, except that's a long-time AL pitcher with not a heck of a lot of baserunning experience, pelting around the bases, windmilling his arms as if he was fighting off a swarm of bees, and slid in safely under the throw. Perty cool. :D Oh, and the Sox won :D :D which makes it cooler still.

If you were to ask me, I would say when the Cardinals won on April 21 thanks to Chris Carpenter pitching a Complete game shutout against the Cubs. It would've been a different story if Z was pitching instead of Dempster (he's better off a closer), and the Cards won 5-0. Rolen and Walker both fueled runs, and Carpenter retiring batters only made matters worse. No wonder why he's the NL Cy Young winner.

BTW Letsgomurphys, there is a thread about nationalities on the "current events" board. Europe is just a bit behind the US. With your vote we can surpass them. :laugh
