If that trade went down just the way it's in the paper, it would benefit all four teams. Each of the teams would get what they are looking for.

So you're giving up Benson, Heilman, Seo & Matsui for Manny & Baez?
You're thinning out the pitching and creating a hole at 2nd but I think I'd have to do it.

I guess we'd be looking for a #5 starter too.

If the Mets can get rid of Kaz Matsui w/o giving up much cash, *AND* get both Manny *AND* Baez, I'd say that Omar's made off like a bandit. They should have his picture in the post office, along w/Billy the Kid.
Losing all of the clubhouse distraction from Benson's wife would be icing on the cake.

Yeah, nothing's been said about the money changing hands. I imagine you'll be paying all of Manny's salary. What about Kaz's?

As I posted in the Red Sox forum about this very same deal, it involves two superstars and 4 teams, so this doesn't seem any way like a sure thing. When I hear of some "impending deal" that only needs a few signatures, then I'll be more confident.
Interestingly, it's Miggy's contract that seems less of a bother. Yes, he is due $48m + signing bonus (I'm not sure how much that is), but he got a $72m/6 year deal, which some said was a bargain, as he could've easily have gotten another $2m per.
To me, it's Manny's money, since you're still talking about about $60m over 3 years, regardless. Looking back to the failed A-Rod-to-Boston trade involving Manny, Boston didn't want to take on any extra payroll. Looking at Pedro, they didn't want to offer him a guaranteed 4th year, so that's how the Mets snared him.
I really don't think that Boston wants to pay any sizeable portion of this deal, so if Omar accepts this, I'd guess that the Mets would pay a very large portion of Manny's salary. May take lots of Manny t-shirts, cups and other memorabilia to pay for his salary, but if Mets fans are willing to deal with this, I can see this getting done and the fans paying for it.

I think whatever deal the Mets make involving Kaz, they would be paying a huge chunk of his salary....

c.Maybe you folks all know this already, but WGN radio in Chicago said tonight that Manny told ESPN radio that he is going nowhere. The Red Sox-Orioles deal seems totally dead. My betting is that the White Sox get Tejada (for Contreras, Uribe, rookie outfielder Ryan Sweeney, and a pitching prospect). According to a pretty reliable blog, the thing holding up the deal is that the Orioles demanded either Brandon McCarthy or top prospect Lance Broadway as the pitching prospect, and Kenny Williams "scoffed." I can't believe the Orioles thought the Sox would give that much up, but my guess is that the Orioles will drop their asking price (by the way, WGN also said that, according to an inside source, Baltimore is definitely moving Tejada).
