The Tribe has signed Jason Johnson, late of Detroit, to hold down the number five spot in the rotation this year. I personally think we overpaid for him. He's a local product here, so I've followed his career. He's inconsistent, at best. I would have rather seen one of the kids at number five.

I hear you on the part of rather seeing a kid at the 5 spot in the rotation. I did see something that I thought was good of him and that is he can pitch alot of innings and he has been healthy in the past few years. As far as over paying him well i also agree with you on that. Oh well though i am sure we will see some of the kids this year because I dont think we can have all of our starters have over 30 starts this year again.

I'd like to create a little healthy debate by saying...

I agree completely with the above two posts.

Johnson had a lingering blister problem in his years with the Tigers which affected his control and the movement of his sinking fastball, his most effective pitch. Apparently the problem recurs.

He should be serviceable on a staff where he's the fourth or fifth starter, unlike with the Tigers.

The Tigers opted to sign veteran southpaw Kenny Rogers in lieu of Johnson.

talk about flushing money down the toilet. he's basically Paul Wilson with less sever health issues....would you pay this kind of money for a guy who's BABIP lucky?

that is a good decision and he can be effective or more than elarton... he is a groundball pitcher, uses some lotion and masturbates less we may have really good 5 starter.... lol, seriously though he is going to be better to begin with than a sowers or tallet... personally i would like to see j.d. in the pen anyway, and if he struggles than can always pull the cord on him and give sowers or davis or tallet...

Jason brings two big assets to the team:

1) He is under 35

2) His agent is not Scott Boras.

Yeah, but can he be more than a .500 pitcher?
I doubt it.

I agree, but I'd still prefer giving his spot to a prospect.

now last time i checked Jason Johnson had only one less quality start than kevin millwood. and last time i checked all of clevelands fair weather fans were bitching that cleveland cant hold onto high price talent like kevin millwood. so by putting two and two together i would say johnson is a great pick b/c he will give you innings and a chance to win and with our lineup thats all we need
