Unbelievably dumb signing. They just gave 5 years to a pitcher with 2 good seasons. Last year was a total fluke, as Millwood's k/9, bb/9, and hr/9 rates stayed almost the exact same as 2004, only his era magically dropped 2 points.

I never thought anything would make the Blue Jays' signings look logical, but here you go. I am so, so sorry Rangers fans.

From Citizens Bank to Jacobs field your ERA should drop. With this move his ERA should jump back to above 5

First of all, his WHIP was much lower last season than it was in 2004, which is because he gave up less hits and less walks. There was a bit of a difference between his bb/9 between the two years since he walked the same amount of batter both years, but in 50 less innings in 2004. He's had 5 good seasons -- he's a very good pitcher. Granted, $12 mil is over the top, but the Rangers need a #1 starter.

In 8 full seasons in the majors (I'm not counting 1997 in which he only pitched 51 innings), he has had 4 great seasons, 1 good season, 2 injury-plagued seasons, and 1 bad season (or off-season). His ERA next year should be high 3.00's or low 4.00's. He also has the potential to win around 20 games with the Rangers offense.

I think some stability for Millwood will do his alot of good. He's been moving around so much lately that I think a long-term deal will only help him.

I think some stability for Millwood will do his alot of good. He's been moving around so much lately that I think a long-term deal will only help him.
Millwood has a history of pitching poorly once he has a guaranteed contract. He rarely stays healthy for an entire season, he is not a pitcher you want on the mound for an important game, he has an awful attitude, and he is not worth anywhere near the money the Rangers paid him.

Millwood has moved around a lot because the organizations he has pitched for recognized his liabilities. I think the Rangers have made a serious mistake.

Milwood as the ace of the staff? You know there's a problem if Kevin Milwood is the ace of your staff. Milwood is an ok pitcher for number two or three spot in the rotation, but not as a pitcher you depend on. The money is not over the top since this is the new standard for contracts, especially for pitchers, but I still find it absolutely ridiculous.

He's the next Park? Oh god no, Park's number were misque by a large margin due to pitching in pitcher friendly Dodger Stadium. This signing is not the greatest, but I don't think it will be as bad the Park signing. I don't think any contract signing will be as bad as Park signing.

I like Milwood as a pitcher, but he's not a pitcher that should be leading your staff.

Millwood is a good strong starter, and I agree he should be a 2nd or 3rd man in the rotation, but watch out. He could be real strong this season if his era stays low. Who know? Maybe some how the Rangers will pull Clemens out and get him as their 1st or 2nd man.
