Nahhhhhhhhhhh, you need a pic of when Tommy got bowled over with a foul ball at the All-Star Game from around 2002 or so. Boy, did he make the boys laugh after he'd said he was OK. That was a truly comical baseball moment! :p
I used that pic as the background for my laptop when that happened.

We can not have a rivarly against a team who since 1988 has had the sucess equal to the Kansas City Royals

Dodgers have been to the playoffs the same amount of times since 88 than the Angels.

I must officially appologize for thinking badly about the condition of the field at phone company park. I kept thinking to myself how "strange" the field looked this season. But I just found out that the Giants are the only team that doesn't use a checkerboard pattern in their grass like everyone else uses these days. I actually like that idea as I think about it and I now realize that it only looked strange because it's different.

My favorite Dodger nightmares...

1. October 3, 1962, Game 3, 1962 playoff series.
Giants score four runs in the top of the 9th inning to clinch the NL pennant.

http://retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B10030LAN1962.htm

2. October 3, 1982: Joe Morgan hits three run HR
Joe Morgans takes Terry Forster deep in the 7th inning, Giants win 5-3.

http://retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B10030SFN1982.htm

3. October 5, 1991, Giants eliminate Dodgers
Trevor Wilson pitches a 2-hit complete game shutout to eliminate the Dodgers and hand the NL West title to the Atlanta Braves.

http://retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B10050SFN1991.htm

4. September 18, 1997, Brian Johnson!!!
Brian Johnson hits a walkoff HR in the bottom of the 10th inning. The win brought the Giants into a first place tie with the Dodgers.

Dang straight it did. You're lucky we're so desperate for starters that we trade for former NBA hacks trying to impersonate National League pitchers. Cain looked very good. But what's up with Nomar being used for plunking practice lately? He's been hit like 6 times this week! :( Look for some modest retaliation in this series. You're correct, it is San Diegans - according to the city of San Diego's official website. sandiego.gov

Actually, for the last few years the Giants' AAA team here in Fresno has donned the New York unis a few times a year. I remember once they wanted to do a turn-back-the-clock day with the hated dodgers' AAA team, wearing the 1951 uniforms, but basically the dodgers said they didn't want the memory of that season brought up. The Giants did a day just last week I think where they were playing the A's and both teams wore uniforms from 1982. Don't know about NY/Brooklyn days, though.

The Giants had tremendous gall and/or stupidity to ask the Dodgers if they would participate in their "celebration" of the shot heard 'round the world. Kind of like asking American Indians if they'd like to start celebrating Columbus Day.

"blame."
that's what we non-players do all of the time during and after games, ain't it?

plenty of blame to go around this season, starting from the skipper and working the roster all the way down. along that route, though, one will perchance upon omar vizquel, 2006 willie mac award recipient. what a treat to watch this guy in action... at age 39!

big man cain really blossomed; schmiddy's era was among the league's best most of the season; bonds continues to marvel.

yeah, alfonso stood up trying to get the ball on a bounce. granted he probably stood a bit because he was trying to scoot over in front of it, but in that situation it seems like you have to make sure you block it even if you dont catch it. especially with a man at 3rd in a tie game in the 9th and especially with the kind of spin stanton was putting on those things.

I know, the logic escapes me too, but oh well. I once saw Shooty Babbit intentionally walked with first base open to set up a double play and I doubt the pitcher was 'scared' of him. WCOB is an intelligent guy, he's just engaging in typical Dodger/Giant banter.

Bonds was 0-3 again last night and didn't hit the ball hard. That's what I meant yesterday when I said he's been feeble lately. Because he has. That's not smack talk, that's fact. He'll break out before long and get his dingers, but for now, enjoy it. I know, I know - another intentional walk. That's become conventional wisdom, at this point. Been happening for years now.

Bonds took a lot of weak swings and looked stymied by some pitches that should have made him drool. But he played every day. He didn't take a break. That's more than anyone can say for the Dodgers.

They bobbed, weaved, ducked and avoided, avoided, avoided. They walked him, a man who hit .186 in July, five times in three games.

The lowest moment came Wednesday night, when reliever Jonathan Broxton tried to pitch around Bonds, then gave up and walked him intentionally.

Tony, your last secenario, regarding Broxton, happens very frequently with Bonds. As I have mentioned before, many pitchers 'give up' trying to pitch to Bonds because they can't get a strike called. I'm not saying that necessarily happened to Broxton last night, but when a pitcher is facing Bonds, he has to try and nibble. Anything fat is subject to a ride downtown. So he nibbles. Unfortunately, most plate umps give everything close to Bonds, including pitches that should be called strikes. After throwing one or two of those to Bonds, and having them called balls, he may as well just 'give up' rather than pipe one right down the middle just to get a strike called! That happened to Penny in the first game of the series. Curve ball that curved right down the middle was called a ball, and Penny threw up his hands in frustration.

west coast orange and black
08-03-2007, 04:01 PM
dude.
broxton nibbled 'cause he wasn't on at all last night; he was all over the place.
and, maybe you have not watched very carefully (or maybe you have but suffer from "dodgerfaneyes") but bonds has had lots of calls go against him.

penny threw a pretty good uncle charlie on that particular one you're talkin' about, i agree. it was a bit high in the zone but definitely in the zone and plate ump hickox missed it.
a pitcher doesn't get as many close ones by throwing up his hands, though.

No, I'll read the story. I didn't see the game last night. I was out, so I didn't see Broxton pitch, which is why I said it didn't necessarily happen to Broxton last night. Maybe you are looking at it with a jaundiced Giants homer's eye, yourself. Bonds gets an AWFUL lot of favorable calls in the ball/strike department.
