Well...this guy that lives about ten miles from me, he built an awesome Wiffleball field. I don't know him personally, I just read it in the local paper. He even has offical Wiffleball tournaments there.

If I had the land and the money, you'd better bet that I'd build my own place. Maybe even one where you could have a few friends over and play a real game. Of course, you'd have to have a LOT of money to do that. I guess I still have time to make money like that, though, seeing as I'm not quite 20 yet.

:crazy Isn't it just north of Road Eyeland, but SW of Main?

That guy did a good job considering what he had to work with.

Sure I would build my own ballpark...if I did it at an appropiate time that is.

This is what my ballpark would look like:

Left Field Foul Line: 320 feet
Left Center Field: 365/380 feet (haven't decided about this)
Center Field: 405 feet
Right center Field: 365/380 feet
Right Field Foul Line: 350 feet

Fenway Park old fashioned scoreboard: Right Field
Rose bushes in deep center field
Tiger Stadium double deckers

more to come...

Good luck in finding a bank dumb enough to finance this project.:laugh

I would just build a Ballfield with brick dugouts.I put 5 foot fences around the outfield so many outfielders have a chance to rob you a homer. Plus its surrounded by hills on both sides so that way people can sit on the hill and watch us play. And my field would look like this 215 Pole,, 265 right and left and 310 dead center with flag pole i center field. And Ill add lights there too.

And on my ballfield Major Leguers and Minor Leaguers ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY ON MY BALLFIELD! Cause theyre hit every flyball out of my park. All fans are welcomed if you dont show off and whack em all out.Kinda like Derrick Jeter would do.

That would be awesome to build your own ballfield. Maybe I might do that when I'm older. Maybe like move to a small country town where eeryone knows each other and propose to city hall to build one. The demensions would depend on the sie of land, however I won't make a wall more than 350 feet in center. Then we could get like teams and have our own little league (not to be confused with little leaguers). Ahh! 15 year olds and their imaginations!. lol. It'd be cool thopugh.

Not sure if you guys have ever seen the Wiffle ball sized fields modeled after Fenway, but they are pretty sweet! I run a somewhat successful wiffle ball league in my area of PA (going on our third year. Started with 8 teams, 10 last year, hoping for 12 this year). We have been in the paper twice and on TV.

Anyway, I just turned 25, and my goal is to build my own wiffle ball park modeled after several big league facilities. I want to do the Green Monster in left, fountains or bushes in center, and a CBP-type angle in right. I'd also add in some personal quirks. I was wondering how I could incorporate brick without killing anyone, and I like steveox's idea of brick dugouts.

I actually have drawn out several models with varying dimensions.

Check out this site:http://www.gamemastersinc.com/gabp/index.htm

It isn't my site, but it's what a few guys did to build their "field of dreams".

Check out my league's website at www.bwbl.net and feel free to post some thoughts in the FORUM.

Thanks, sschirmer, for clarifying, but I think west coast understood.

I can not take the credit for this or any other successful Wiffle(R) ball field, YET. I have full intentions of purchasing my own plot of land to do the same sort of thing within the next five years (by my 30th birthday). I'll continue to post in here as new developments occur. I get lots of great ideas from you all and from www.ballparktour.com.

One day, it'll be mine, and you're all invited (I know, it's a moot invitation until it happens, but I hold true on promises, usually:ughh ).

your own ball field would be cool. you could rent it out for some great parties.

sickle
01-19-2006, 07:41 PM
Parties are definitely an option, but my dream is to build it for use to help some really good local charities have a really cool fundraiser. For me, it would just be living out a dream I've had since Rocket appeared on the cover of SI on September 25, 1989.

Towards the back (perhaps the back page) of this issue which featured my home-town superstar, there was a story about this guy in Vermont who built his own Fenway for Wiffle. My bro and I did drawings over the next few weeks. Mine may be gone, but the memory will never fade. I want to be able to carry out this fantasy that began over 15 years ago, all while helping out in my community.

I gotcha. I misunderstood your reply. I too agree, sweet field. I think I may run over that way this weekend, and check it out.

I don't know about any of you, but wouldn't it be nice to have an indoor dome kind of field to have. It be expensive, but it means baseball could be an all year-round sport. There could be winter leagues. This is just something that I thought would be cool. In St. Louis, it can get cold during the winter. (This would a neat experiment.)

sickle
01-31-2006, 09:13 PM
Trust me, if I had the cash, I would build a field with a retractable roof. I wouldn't want to build a dome, because that takes away from the beauty of the sport on a nice spring/summer day. If only I could hit the Powerball ....

sschirmer
02-02-2006, 10:41 AM
If you want to win, you have to play!

I'm not too sure if BJ will get your retractable dome built, but I do like your odds better!

You'd end up below!

sickle
02-03-2006, 02:05 PM
I've learned very quickly that the only way to go with BJ is in a brick-and-mortar casino. Online play is SUPER fixed and doesn't go by card count at all. The two times this past year that I played BJ in a casino (once at Turning Stone in NY and once in Borgata in AC) I have come up with money. I'm going again in two weeks to Turning Stone and hope to continue the trend. Once I get my credit cards paid off, I'll have TONS more money to play and build towards my dome :) . The real goal, however, is just a field. That should be doable in 5 years time.

I know that it is obviously a minor league park. It looks somewhat like Bowen Field in Bluefield, WV but they have orange seats.

Here's the "real deal". If you go to Disney's MGM Studios in Florida they have a cool restaurant called the Sci-Fi Drive-In restaurant. It's basically a Drive-In movie theatre inside a sound stage.

My idea would be to build a wiffleball stadium inside a sound stage. You can build you're favorite stadium from years ago and put cut-out fans in the seats. You could also leave an open set of seats behind home plate so you can have fans in the seats. I would use a carpet for the grass and just go crazy.

Of course you would have to be crazy rich to build this monster, but wouldn't it be worth it?

There's also an alternative.

Before happening-upon this great forum, I thought I was only one of a few people interested in our great old ballparks (the ones before luxury boxes and cupholders).

Boy, was I wrong.

If one goes to this site:

http://www.digitalballparks.com/

One finds some AMAZING old ballparks.

Most in need of repair.

I think it would be great...while they're tearing-down Yankee Stadium and Tiger Stadium...for those who share the passion for what ballparks used to be to 'adopt' one of them.

What fun that would be.

Make no mistake about it, the 'quirkiness' of old parks is one of the prime 'grabbers' of the big bucks these days. That's why hundreds of millions of dollars are now spent doing things like creating outfield hills...and notches in fences.

But, hills...and notches...used to be 'natural'...and not 'forced' re-creations.

The reason that ballparks have such a 'grip' on people is that baseball is the only American sport where the stadium has a 'direct' influence on the game.

(At the age of 9, I well-knew the pre-game discussion between the umpires and managers regarding ground-rules)

Your thoughts?
