2005-2006 Offseason Acquisition Guide

This guide lists all players who were acquired by teams during the 2005-2006 Offseason (October 1, 2005-April 5, 2006) via Free Agency, Trade, Waivers, and Rule 5. Letters before the players name determine what type of transaction it was.

If there is a t. before the players name, it was a trade. Of there is a w. before the players name, it was a waiver pickup. If is a 5. before the players name, it was a Rule 5 pickup, and if there is nothing before the players name, it was a Free Agent signing.

This list only lists players who were signed by a new team. Not players who were re-signed by their 2005 team.

If you see that there is a move not listed (Major or Minor), please make mention of it throughout the thread, with a link (it could even be a link to a transaction page. Doesnt necessarily have to be to a report specifically mentioning the transaction in question).

I will not update the list on a daily basis. usually once or twice a week, depending on my schedule. It will not be the most complete list, as I will not be able to list every minor league Free Agent signing, trade, etc. But this list will be pretty damn close to complete.

Also, feel free to post transactions as they happen throughout the offseason in the thread. I want this to be a BBF list, not a baseballknoitall list. I could use all the help I can get.

All of the updates for the last few days are done, including the Rule 5 draft. Only thing is that I only listed the players who were taken in the MLB phase of the Rule 5, not the players taken in the AAA and AA phases. Frankly there were too many, so I will get to those sometime over the weekend.

This is from Baseball America's older description of the Rule V Draft:

There are Triple-A and Double-A segments of the Rule 5 draft, with price tags of $12,000 and $4,000 respectively. Minor league players not protected on the reserve lists at the Double-A and Class A levels are subject to selection, but almost no future big leaguers emerge from this process. It's basically a tool for major league teams to fill out affiliates rather than obtain talent.

Sean Douglas is now off the Indians' roster.

Roster move: The Sean Douglass era was short-lived.

Douglass, claimed by the Indians off waivers after the Tigers attempted to outright him to Triple-A in October, has been released by the Tribe.

The Indians have let Douglass go to allow him to pursue interests in the Japanese Professional Baseball League with the Hiroshima club, which will be managed by former Triple-A Buffalo skipper Marty Brown.

The release of Douglass puts the Tribe's 40-man roster back at 39.
