Inserting pictures

Can anyone help. I have just started using the feature, manage attachments. The problem is almost all of my pictures exceed the minimum size 100kb. I often have to crop, cut out much of the photo to get under 100kb. Most of my pics are a jpeg format which is one of the lowest in size yet I still have that size problem.
Can a jpeg be changed to lower the kb or changed to another format that will take up less space, lower kb.

2 things you can try..

#1 - cut down the over all pixel size...
#2 - change it to a .gif format...

That was fast. First, how do I change, say a picture that is in a jpeg format to .gif. When I save a picture to a folder on that drop down menu I never see .gif as a choice. I see bitmark, tiff and a dozen others but no .gif.

So how do I find and cut down on the pixel size and how do I change to a gift format. At this time I am not working on any picture in particular so there would be none to send you, but would appreciate if you could tell me how to do the above Thank you.

you would need some sort of graphics design program. I use Photoshop, and Paint Shop Pro.

Paint Shop Pro is the program I use the most.

you can convert to different formats (IE jpeg to gif.) and you can resize the size of the image in either of those programs.

You can also "save as" with an exsisting photo in your photoshop program and change the jpg quality to reduce file size without reducing its pixel size. Usually reducing the quality to 75% works to get most large files down to under 100 kilobites.

Thank you for that info. I do not have photoshop, I do have Adobe 3.0. Do you know if I can do the same using Adobe.

Hmm, not sure. I actually don't use photoshop either. I use an old MGI photosuite that came with my old computer and also Kodak Easyshare programs. However, they both offer to reduce the quality (%) when saving as a new file in jpg form. Try it with Adobe and let me know.

Oh, and don't forget to save the new reduced quality file with a different name unless you want to permanently delete the high quality version of the photo from your folder.

I must admit I have not made a great effort to see if that can be done with Adobe. I will take a good look into that soon.
