Anyone have XM Radio? Is it worth buying for listening to Baseball?:hp

I have Xm, I've had it all season long, and the have MLB talk live, all off season. Some nights they replay interviews, but you'll hear old games, interviews and all current / recent news...

I had earphones, but since I roll in bed too much and would yank the station off my night stand. I just bought PC speakers, and I keep them under my pillow.... I listen to my XM all the time, especially before I fall asleep...

it's worth it.

I had it, but then I opted for the MLB.TV package, so I could get video. Let me tell you, it's awesome.

i have had it all season, i would listen to the baseball talk every morning on my drive to work, and i would flip thru the games to check scores and stuff at night. it is alot of fun to listen to, you can get to hear what other team's announcers are like, most of the time the home team gets the broadcast.

but all in all, it is a lot of fun

It is well worth it!

I have the XM 2 Go and you can hear games anytime, anywhere...

Also, if you have DirecTV, you can now listen to the MLB 24/7 station as DirecTV has just added XM radio to their lineup... Its on 878 in DTV....

Here's more info on it:

I am getting the XM 2 go for Christmas, (I have been extra good this year)

My fear is this, I have issues getting reception on my cell phone while at my house... will the same issues be there with the XM?

As long as you have your XM antenna facing the southern sky, then you should be fine.

I just got mine today. I had to decide between XM and Sirius. Baseball or Howard Stern.
I don't think I could show my face around here again if I had gone with Sirius. Can't wait to tune in.

Yea I've been listening to the station since it came on. I buy Direct TV's MLB Package each year. I like to have the XM 2 go to listen when I not home watch games.

What kind of reception can an urban dweller expect with satellite radio? I live in an aparment building surrounded by other apartment buildings. Ugh! I never get an answer I can trust from sales people in stores like Best Buy.

If I could have either, I'd go with XM.

Yes, definetly worth it. I've had it since right before the All-Star break '05, and love it. :D If you're into baseball, you gotta get it. Especially if you have any sort of commute.

The MLB coverage is extensive to say the least. Interesting talk/call-in shows, fantasy baseball shows, replays of classic games from the past, and oh yeah, EVERY game played during the season. You get the local radio feed of each home team, and your choice of home and away feeds come playoff time. For the WS this year you could listen to the White Sox or Astros play by play, as well as the ESPN call.

I think they also have music channels on there too.;)

Ok, right now I am in South Carolina visiting my parents. In the area they are at, they get HORRIBLE cell phone reception in their house.. I set up my XM yesterday with the external antenna that came with it and I listened to the whole WBC press conference with no problems at all! And I have been listening to the 24/7 baseball channel for the last few hours this morning with no problems...

I LOVE IT!!!

So what do you think of it?
I really enjoy it. The hot stove talk has been great, and I got to listen to A-Rod's 3 HR, 10 RBI game driving through near blizzard conditions early Sunday, followed by an ALCS gem between Oakland (Barry Zito) and Boston (Pedro Martinez.) I am really looking forward to the launch of regualr games in February. It's been well worth the expense.

Of course, the XM is mobile, but I'm still sticking with my mlb.com audio subscription. 15 bucks for the whole season, and I get to choose either the home or away broadcast all season long.

XM is great, one bad thing is when I go for a walk I sometimes lose my signal...

that is without any trees around...

stinks... but I can deal with it, I don't have a choice... or do I?

Is there anyway to boost the reception, without carrying around the car antenna in my pocket? ;)

I just bought my XM Radio yesterday. I'm really looking forward to the new season! My baseball knowledge will increase dramatically. I'll be able to listen to 2 games daily. I get to stay up late, because I only start work at 11 so I'll be able to follow the West Coast teams, like never before.

I can't wait!! Excellent investment.

DO NOT ORDER!!!!

I just bought mine, let me test it first, I will give a review here...

the one that comes with the system, was useless.... so i "upgraded" and bought one that they claimed had a new style and offered better quality...

NOPE!

So now I am waiting for my shipment of the $50 headphones with the antenna...

this one..

Thanks for testing out the supposed better reception earphones. I always like to hear how things are working for real people, not the sales reps. I have had my xm2go for about a week now, and love it. I just have the same problem of no reception when walking around with it. Hopefully, I will be able to find something to rectify that sometime. At home, I listen to it through my radio in my bedroom, and I have the vehicle set up for my car. I would definitely recommend getting xm. I found mine on the internet for 149.99, and had the 50.00 rebate going at the time, so ended up paying 99.99 for it :D

yea i found a fix for the mobile reception issue..

get another car antenna... and shorten the wire, and put it in your pocket..
he he
i walked with mine and it never lost resception... so I am hoping this new design will work out well..

now, with that said. something I do no like, is the fact that you can not remove recorded items without deleting ALL of the items...

meaning, if Mark Prior throws a no hitter, I want to keep that for review later... :)
but when Wood goes .1 innings and gives up 8 earned runs.... I want to delete that as soon as i can.

:)

check ebay. I use ebay for all my stuff anymore.

I just did a search for "xm myfi Car Antenna" and the norm is around $30 if you use the 'buy it now' option...

decent right? well if this headphone system works you can spend $17 more and get it and kill 2 birds with one stone.

I also suggest getting a 2nd remote.... I have one that stays in my car, and one in my house... for $12 after shipping you cant go wrong!

Right on there. For some reason, ESPN blacked out the first 2 Mets games they were supposed to show in NC. If it wasn't for my XM, I might have hurt somebody or something. I don't see my local cable company picking up SNY for its line up either, so I will be listening to a lot of games this year. As an added bonus, I heard a rumour that XM also had some music stations :D

you can find on ebay used for around or just over $100...

new... I saw one today at staples for $174... I paid $200 (after rebate for mine) this past christmas season

Go with the Delphi MyFi.

this one:

http://images.skymall.com/images/products/c3/27/04/69714744x.jpg

it can transmit wireless to any FM radio.. plus take it with you when you are out and about..

the kit comes with a home setup kit, as well as one car kit.

I bought a 2nd car kit on ebay for $40..

a 2nd remote for $12...

And like i said before I just bought the new headphones that have the antenna actually molded into the design.. $40 i think it was..
here:
http://i21.ebayimg.com/01/i/06/12/c3/c5_1.JPG

monthly cost?!?

I think mine is $15.40 a month, but go month to month, and when the season is over... cancel... when it is about to start back... activate again.

:)

There are other channels I have grown to really enjoy, like 202, which has Ron and Fez and Opie and Anthony, both of whom are based in NY, but I would gladly pay just for the baseball alone. XM Comedy 150 is good also. Great variety on XM.

Ok I got a quick review of the new headphones that has the xs antenna built in..

over all?
7.5

Does it work?
yea, I still have issues when I walk in my neighborhood, but I have HUGE pine trees and oak trees that "line the sky" as long as I am out from under them... it works great!

It works in my house, upstairs and down... so overall on the usage... i give it an 8 - 8.5

the bad rating?

I think the bulky-ness is not my style, recently I started to use the 'over the ears speakers (actually 2 piece, one on each ear) and i am going to have a hard to going back to the old style..

I hope this helps..

Perhaps look at buying for an ebay user that will allow you to get a money back refund if the signal is not good enough for you..

let me know if anyone else has these....

Thanks!

I am sort of mixing thoughts I found in this thread but:

1) XM is great, it is well worth the 13 bucks to be able to hear every game. The home feed only doesn't really bother me.
2) Any chance to listen to Vin Scully is welcomed.
3) The Cubs broadcasts are excellent. Santo is great. Never has a "Homer" been so entertaining. Plus I love the "real" Chicago team.
4) I bought a repeater for my XM so I can put the receiver anywhere I want and no cables. It works outstandingly.
5) MLB tv from MLB.com is pretty good but I just couldn't sit in front of my computer for that long. I really wanted it for the condensed games but they used to show every out and now they don't. It really bothered me, you can't get a sense for the game like you used to.

BadKarma

So, with the repeater you can pick up a good signal from anywhere in your house? How much did it run ya? Trying to decide between the antenna headphones or maybe the repeater if it works that good.

I only have the car unit, and just as the season is starting my antenna somehow goes on the fritz, can't pick hardly anything up.
Fortunately, Delphi customer service was very good. After explaining the issue with him, I sent my antenna to Delphi (Madison heights, MI is the warranty center) with the expected return time of 10-14 days. I haven't gotten it back yet (it's only been a day) but I am pleased with how well they responded.
Now, though, I'm stuck with regular radio for a couple weeks.

It's range is 75 feet. I have it on the opposite ends of my apartment and it goes through walls, doors etc. It was EXPENSIVE. 150 bucks! I was lucky to have had the money available and it just makes everything so seamless. It has to be plugged in though, so you cant take it on the road or outside. I was lucky to have picked an apartment with south facing windows and I am afraid if I move I would have trouble so I bit the bullet.
