i'm with you but grich was a better all-around ballplayer than johnson
When I did my lineup I wrestled with that one (Johnson vs. Grich) but ultimately went with Davey. He was more of an Oriole than Grich was.
I also went with Triandos over Dempsey in a toughie, and Murray barely over Powell. It'd be an easy choice if Eddie weren't run out of town.

I went with Davey simply because I liked him better than Grich - I looked at Grich as a "traitor" when he bailed for 'da money' after the 1976 season. And really, only his 1974 season stood out during his Baltimore tenure.
How about some of the others? Jerry Adair wasn't bad. Rich Dauer (does he have to come with Billy Smith)? Billy Gardner? Now if we could count the Browns, Marty McManus might be the natural choice. Of course, if we counted the Browns, we'd have to find a home for guys like George Sisler and Kenny Williams.

No one mentioned Bobby Wallace. Can't leave him off the list of all time greats in the Browns/Orioles history book.......

I am amazed that no one named Willie Keeler to the team, not even as a back-up!
Including the Browns does mean Bobby Wallace should be strongly considered for the backup SS position, and would likely take one of the reserve infield spots on my 25-man team. To compare to the other reserve middle infielders mentioned... stats in parentheses are */162:
Wallace
Seasons - 11+ w/ STL
Games - 1569
AB - 5529 (571)
runs - 609 (63)
hits - 1424 (147)
RBI - 607 (63)
steals - 138 (14)
AL MVP: none
Kress
Seasons - 6+ w/ STL
Games - 785
AB - 3020 (623)
runs - 425 (88)
hits - 902 (186)
RBI - 513 (106)
steals - 23 (5)
AL MVP: 1931 (19th)
Aparicio
Seasons - 5 w/ BAL
Games - 721
AB - 2948 (662)
runs - 385 (87)
hits - 740 (166)
RBI - 194 (44)
steals - 166 (37)
awards
AL MVP: 1963 (23rd), 1964 (28th), 1966 (9th)
Aparicio probably had the highest quality seasons of the three (Kress did better than I thought), but Wallace's tenure was a lot longer.
As for Willie Keeler... if we are doing this according to franchise, Keeler played for the old Orioles, which would place him on the New York Yankees.
