I think that this kid is going to be somthing special. I'm a braves fan and I'm on the Francoeur band waggon ,but Gomes has really got some pop!! I mean 19 homes in 256 ab's!!! A homer every 13 ab's in a 600 ab season that's 46 homers!!! All I have to say is lock this guy up long term!!!

To bad the guy didn't win rookie of the year but, still in about 6 years I'd love to see his stats.;)

Johnny Gomes, I love this guy, I think him, along with Carl Crawford, and if Delom Young turns out to be the great player everyone says he is going to be, will help turn the Devil Rays around in the next 3-5 years, if not sooner. Johnny Gomes is an outstanding pretty much unknown player, Pinella love him last year and its good to see Maddon left him in the lineup this year, and with his stats from last year who wouldnt?

He's the heart and soul of the Rays. He might get under the opponents skin when he removes his helmet after crossing the plate after hitting a HR, but he's been doing that since Little League. He's not trying to show up the other team. Piniella loved his hustle and found a way to keep him in the lineup. He might never be a regular OFer, but as a DH, he's just fine for us. :D

Well I called it. This guy is leading the AL in round trippers with 10.

He hit another last night and went 4 for 4. He's a must start and a keeper for the Rays. They better not think of trading him, even if he can't play OF very well. The man can hit and doesn't mind being a DH at age 25. Like I said above, he is the heart and soul of the team, and is rapidly becoming the face of the team to the rest of baseball. :gt

I love Johnny Gomes, when I saw him on T.V. hit his first homerun last year and the emotion he showed, I knew I would like this guy, he has eclipsed Dontrelle Willis as my favorite player in the major leagues. Go Johnny, plus his story to the majors is a heart warming story, he lived in his car, and at 18 I think it was, he had a heart attack. This guy plays like every game is his last, a truely unique player in a league where sometimes its hard to find a player who isnt all about the money.

I love the hustle and enthusiasm he brings to the Rays, not to mention the power.

Its amazing to believe the Rays were close to releasing him a couple of years ago. He gives this team attitude and hustle. He is already the emotional leader of the team and hasn't played a full season in the majors yet.

Gomes is an american league player. He is going to be mostly a DH even after his arm heals. The phillies have a pretty decent team now that the mal contents have left. Like most teams they need more pitching.

Yes Yes I know, but one can always dream that theyre favorite player will end up on their favorite team right? Gomes was pretty much an all exclusive DH when he was healthy aswell. When I went to Phils game when the D-rays came to town, I was hoping he would be in Right, but he wasnt. He did pinch hit and get an RBI double.

How about Gomes for Ryan Howard? :laugh Too bad Lamar didn't pull the trigger on the Howard for Baldelli deal. Howard is an untouchable right about now. If he doesn't win NL MVP there should be an investigation.

I must say, although Gomes is my favorite player I wouldnt let Howard go for him. Sorry Jonny, I have shamed you....hahahha. How about Pat Burrell?

He is amazing at any sport. Like I said before just wait for his older brother Joey to climb up If he is still in minors that is...I haven't been keeping up lately:dance

Gomes was sent down to AAA Durham today when Iwamura was activated. He had only 49ABs with 1 HR this year in spot duty. A lot of things have changed since I posted my earlier comments in this thread. Since his shoulder injury and surgery, other OF'ers like Dukes and Young have passed him and it will be very hard for him to break back into this lineup. I think the Rays are hoping he puts up some good numbers in Durham so that they can move him for pitching.

Gomes is proving me wrong once again. Thanks to Baldelli's continuing injury problems, and Dukes' on and off the field issues, Gomes was given another opportunity and he has made the most of it. He looks like a much more confident hitter once he regained his stroke at Durham. He's not swinging at everything trying to knock it out of the park. Hitting in Colorado also helped, the whole team seemed to find their offense again after facing some tough pitching in San Diego.

Gomes is the kind of player that the Rays need right now. He gives them some mojo. He was upset when he was sent down, but he handled things the right way and deserved another shot. Right now he is proving he belongs.
