In the spirit of a long lasting fan appreciation, CubsHub has kindly given us permission to use his trademark Picture This for our very own name the Red Sox thread.

So, who is this Red Sock?

Cecil Cooper. 1972 Topps card. Fisk is one of the other players on the card, but I can't remember the third.

Correctamundo.

The third player is Mike Garman who went 3rd in the first round of the 1967 draft and went on to pitch for the Cards, Cubs, Dodgers and Expos. Cooper, of course, went on to have some great years with the Brewers before retiring in 1987 with a career batting average of .298

Yes, Billy Goodman. It took a Yankees fan to identify a Red Sock. :clapping

Here's one....

He played 6 years with the Sox and returned for the final year of his career.

Now, I know you're not a recent addition to the Red Sox Nation. :grouchy ;)

Sorry, Pesky6 has forced me to go into Red Sox obscurity for this one. :D

He played one year with the Sox and it wasn't would I would call stellar.

Not later than than 1952 and not earlier than 1952. I just gave you the year. :waving

The answer, then, is Randy Gumpert. He only appeared in one game, but he had a 4.12 ERA, which still isn't horrible. Did you say he was really horrible because of his lack of playing time? I was looking for someone really bad.

runningshoes
09-12-2005, 10:06 AM
No, I said that cause he allowed 15 hits in 19 innings, at least that's what the stats say.

We drew almost 260,000 fans this year.

Haywood it is...Player, manager, General Manager and eventual part owner of the Red Sox after Tom Yawkey died. His son Marc caught for the Sox as well from 1982 till 1987.

Sorry about the quality, but this is the only pic I could find of this career long Red Sox player.

Charles F. Wagner aka Heinie Wagner

Not bad, for a Cubs fan. ;)

Blue Jays fans might know who this fellow is cause he hit 3 homre runs in one game againt the Orioles in the 80's and he's probably one of the all time fan favourites in Toronto.

I'm not sure though, there are so many Jays fans willing to wander outside the realm of the Blue Jays thread. It's no that intimidating here guys and gals. ;)

I believe that is former Blue Jay catcher, Ernie Whitt.

You are Corrcet Iron Jaw and Ernie did come up with the Sox in '76.

On September 14, 1987 he hit 3 home runs in what became the biggest home run derby in the history of the game. 10 home runs.

Who can forget this guy's pinch hit that set up a dramatic home run?

CubsHub gets it by only four minutes.

This fellow gave Sox fans someone to cheer for every time he reached base . . . go, go, go chanted Sox fans every time he reached .

He had a son who played in the bigs.
