How many times has a team scored 10+ runs in an inning and still lose the game?

I don't know how many times it has happened, but I do know it happened at least once. On June 8, 1989 the Pirates scored 10 in the top of the 1st and lost 15-11 to the Phillies.

It almost happened last year in a game between Texas and Detroit. Detroit took a 6-4 lead into the 5th inning and then scored 8 runs in the top of the 5th to go ahead 14-4. Texas then scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 5th to tie it and eventually won the game 16-15.

18 runs in a single inning by both teams has to be up there for some kind of record. What is the most a team has led by in a game and still managed to lose?

I remember the Mariners having a 12-run lead on the Tribe back in 2001 and the Indians scored 3 in the 7th, 4 in the 8th, and 5 in the 9th, with 3 of the runs coming on Omar Vizquel's bases-loaded triple. Cleveland eventually won in the 11th on Jolbert Cabrera's RBI single. Don't know if it's the record, though.

I actually watched that game, start to finish. It tied the major league record for biggest comeback ever.

It happened today when the Indians came back from a 10-1 deficit against the Royals to score 4 runs in the 9th and eventually win in extras.

I think it happened earlier in the year during an Orioles and Devil Rays game.

The O's were trailing by a substantial amount, but managed to have a ten run inning. They still lost.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this is the only other time in MLB history that this has happened.
